A dear friend of mine was having a horrible week and I couldn't think of what I could do for her, so I decide to try and make her yeast rolls like my mom makes. At Christmas, my mom gave me part of her starter yeast and I'd been feeding it since then. (you keep it in your fridge and feed it once a week or so like a pet...) I usually kill it because I forget to feed it... I'm not a very good housewife (whereas, my mother is amazing...) Anyway... I didn't even have a rollin pin or a normal cookie cutter! All my cutters are CUTE! AGGH!
So vaguely snowmen-cut rolls it was!

I forgot to let them rise again... but they still taste really good, and my friend liked them! I think I may try again tomorrow. It takes a bit of work though, because you have to feed the yeast,... wait a day... make the dough... wait a day, make the rolls into shapes, then wait at least 3 hours before cooking them. THEY ARE REALLY YUMMY THOUGH. And that's not even counting the cinnamon roll type, which I haven't attempted on my own yet. I'm sure with a good 3 or 4 tries I can somewhat match the magic which is my mom's rolls.

Then today, Mitch and I went out for Valentine's Day. We pretty much never go out on "actual" Valentine's Day... we don't like the crowds. We went to Santa Monica today and bumped around. I really wanted to see the ocean and feel the beautiful weather.

Lately, I've been having fun experimenting a bit with my clothes. I wore a kinda OTT lolita dress (from SweetRococo), but I dressed it down with an Adidas jacket and boots.

We had a wonderful late lunch at Fritto Misto. Fritto Misto looks like a hole in the wall Italian place... but their food is EXCEPTIONAL.
I got sweet potato ravioli and Mitch got Chicken Marsala. OH MY GOODNESS. SO YUMMY.

After walking around a bit (in the absolutely gorgeous weather) we met up with Eron at Renee's... I'm going to do an art show there in a couple months, so I wanted to check out the space... It's GORGEOUS. It feels like Moulin Rouge. I feel like I have to make my art rise to the occasion. We'll see what happens. ;X

Love the doll collection. How unexpected!

OMAKE... random crazy man with a butt-flap and snakes.

for the frou-frou on my list, here's a couple bad-mirror shots of outfits
(DUDE, Look how long my hair is! I don't think it's ever been this long!)

the idea is basically "forest girl"... the colors are more reds, browns and neutrals... kindof... and using old and crafty looking items and lots of layers (usually). the idea is a girl who is exploring in the forest. :)

Date: 2010-02-14 05:37 am (UTC)If you don't have cookie cutters, a drinking glass or cup, upside-down works really well. Better if it's clear and the sides are thin, and you may have to pry it a little out of the glass with a butter knife, but it works. And sometimes I just cut shapes with a knife -- harder to get them uniform, tho!

What's the theme of the art show going to be?

Date: 2010-02-17 01:07 am (UTC)I'm probably going to do some type of fairy-tale/folk-lore theme.

Date: 2010-02-14 06:15 pm (UTC)I'm sure you're still playing, but if I could suggest considering full chemise layers that are belted that way the colors go from top to bottom that might give you layered effect without all of the bulk(?). I do love the cream scarf too.
