A dear friend of mine was having a horrible week and I couldn't think of what I could do for her, so I decide to try and make her yeast rolls like my mom makes. At Christmas, my mom gave me part of her starter yeast and I'd been feeding it since then. (you keep it in your fridge and feed it once a week or so like a pet...) I usually kill it because I forget to feed it... I'm not a very good housewife (whereas, my mother is amazing...) Anyway... I didn't even have a rollin pin or a normal cookie cutter! All my cutters are CUTE! AGGH!
So vaguely snowmen-cut rolls it was!

I forgot to let them rise again... but they still taste really good, and my friend liked them! I think I may try again tomorrow. It takes a bit of work though, because you have to feed the yeast,... wait a day... make the dough... wait a day, make the rolls into shapes, then wait at least 3 hours before cooking them. THEY ARE REALLY YUMMY THOUGH. And that's not even counting the cinnamon roll type, which I haven't attempted on my own yet. I'm sure with a good 3 or 4 tries I can somewhat match the magic which is my mom's rolls.

Then today, Mitch and I went out for Valentine's Day. We pretty much never go out on "actual" Valentine's Day... we don't like the crowds. We went to Santa Monica today and bumped around. I really wanted to see the ocean and feel the beautiful weather.

Lately, I've been having fun experimenting a bit with my clothes. I wore a kinda OTT lolita dress (from SweetRococo), but I dressed it down with an Adidas jacket and boots.

We had a wonderful late lunch at Fritto Misto. Fritto Misto looks like a hole in the wall Italian place... but their food is EXCEPTIONAL.

I got sweet potato ravioli and Mitch got Chicken Marsala. OH MY GOODNESS. SO YUMMY.

After walking around a bit (in the absolutely gorgeous weather) we met up with Eron at Renee's... I'm going to do an art show there in a couple months, so I wanted to check out the space... It's GORGEOUS. It feels like Moulin Rouge. I feel like I have to make my art rise to the occasion. We'll see what happens. ;X

Love the doll collection. How unexpected!

OMAKE... random crazy man with a butt-flap and snakes.

for the frou-frou on my list, here's a couple bad-mirror shots of outfits
(DUDE, Look how long my hair is! I don't think it's ever been this long!)

Playing a bit with Mori Girl fashion

I'm attempting to make cup cakes for Valentine's day. I really like the pink-coral/brown colors in the last picture. Very cute!

After looking up what Mori girl is, it reminds me of these old Holly Hobbie cards I own where she wears cute flowery dresses :)

What's Mori-girl fashion? It looks a bit like how I dress when I go out! (plus heavy jacket and thick scarf nowadays because our weather is so much less pleasant)

I posted some links here where you can check out more!
http://aimeekitty.livejournal.com/1264243.html

the idea is basically "forest girl"... the colors are more reds, browns and neutrals... kindof... and using old and crafty looking items and lots of layers (usually). the idea is a girl who is exploring in the forest. :)

That last outfit is really cute!

If you don't have cookie cutters, a drinking glass or cup, upside-down works really well. Better if it's clear and the sides are thin, and you may have to pry it a little out of the glass with a butter knife, but it works. And sometimes I just cut shapes with a knife -- harder to get them uniform, tho!

As always, you are awesome at incorporating lolita clothing into your everyday wardrobe. ^_^

I love your mori-girl look! Thanks for bringing this style to my attention; I'm gonna experiment with it for sure. ^_^

What's the theme of the art show going to be?

I love both outfits (the OTT loli-ness looks GREAT toned down with the brown boots and belt), and the mori-girl stuff, in that silhouette, looks beautiful on you!! Wow, I'd love to see you do more with that!! *fashion geeking, hehe*

What a beautiful day, thank you for sharing it with us!

(And you're so sweet, making yeast rolls for your friend, awwww.)

Yay for you and Mitch having an amazing pre-Valentine's Day date!

*snugs*

I now see what you were saying about Mori Girl and your body type. I'm happy to see you playing around with the style to see what will work for you. I think you really pull off lolita very well (much more than someone like me). I would love to try lolita just to see at some point, but this is about you. :)

I'm sure you're still playing, but if I could suggest considering full chemise layers that are belted that way the colors go from top to bottom that might give you layered effect without all of the bulk(?). I do love the cream scarf too.

I'm probably going to do some type of fairy-tale/folk-lore theme.

yeah, I feel like I've discovered a magical key the past couple weeks. I'd never thought of dressing down an OTT sweet dress before. I love OTT prints... but I don't always want to feel over the top. :D Thanks man! I'll play around some more! :)

aw, you're so sweet. thanks man. It's funny, when I was little I had really short hair, I only recently have let it get long, but I like it, it feels feminine.

sorry, I don't quite understand, could you explain in a different way? do you mean putting the belt on top of all the layers? and do you mean wearing the heavier colors on the bottom...? sorry, am confused!

But I still need to see more inspiration pictures from mori so that I can learn more, I'm sure that there are some things I could take from it that would work for me. :)
