GAMES ON LAPTOP

I want to play some old SNES emulators on the laptop, (we have a MacbookPro)... but how do you play them? do I need to get some kind of plugin or wireless video-game-type controller? Suggestions?
(this really is a not-veiled attempt to get Mitch to play Chrono Trigger)

completely unrelated:

Just a headsup, BABY rereleased their Strawberry Cake Bag (it's not identical release, but very similar.)
I bought mine used (in white) years ago and use it ALL THE TIME. pic of mine. It's so cute, looks like a cake, and in white, it goes with almost all my stuff.

Here's my outfit from Sunday (going to a movie with Mitch). We went to see The Ugly Truth, which was predictable,... but I really enjoyed it anyway. I was charmed, I guess you could say.

Headbow: chubbybunny <3
tshirt: Forever21
Necklace: Forever21 (from Annie <3)
Skirt: KidsYoYo
Flats: Naturalizer

Then went through the last two volumes of AliceDeco and Kera for some of my favorites. (Some scans are from thevisual-beast.)

SWEET ROCK
Lately, I'm really inspired by stuff that mixes a sweet-style dress with some more rock or punk aspects. It makes it more casual and more playful and well... energetic/punky! Leather Biker jacket with ruffled skirt, YES PLEASE!
The plaid is pretty awesome in this, too. Note the chunky necklaces and belts.

I wish I wasn't so busy. I've been wanting to make a plaid dress for months now.

SWEET
Yeah, this is kinda over the top, but I love it. Love the poof hair, love the teacup hat (I WANT TO MAKE ONE) Love the pink blouse with pink on pink dress. Love the print.

Love these trends lately to do casual spank/fairykei/loli type coordinations. Some of the shapes are too "bag-like" for me, but I love the color and fabric texture combinations. LOVE THEM HARD.

yellow short-sleeve hoodie with blue and white shirt... so cute. Hot pink swiss dot skirt with grey jacket! XD XD I so would have bought that BABY swiss dot skirt if it wasn't so SHORT. Still might buy it if they have it at the SF store.

again, fun color combos, love the slightly non-traditional coordinations. (ie taking a really frilly loli dress, but making it look more casual by adding a belt or a simple hoodie,... or casual boots, etc...)

more of the spank style, but none of these are to OTT, they're cute! I want a rainbow petti!

LOVE LOVE LOVE that stripey high waist skirt. Must make.

MORE CLASSIC
Simple all black dress, but it doesn't look boring, does it?

corset loli! Love the blouse with a cravat look used this way. I need that! Love the skirt.

Love the far left outfit (with the pink boots). but... GIRLS BE MORE COOL!

Far bottom right,... love the use of a frilly lolita shirt with a vest, boots and plaid. Super cute. Some fun hair styles using extensions for color.
and the rest are just ones I like for various reasons.

GIRLS PUNK. YES! Look how frilly that pink dress is, but they're pairing it with studded belts and bracelets! LOVE.

... I need hotpink dr martens.

random cute photo

please note blue biker jacket XD
in general just like the styling.

and then some kimono shoots from Kera aug 09

You can actually get a usb thing that allows you to use an xbox 360 controller on your computer. I think gamestop carries them. :3

My brother used to have one that plugged into the compy I think Logitech made it!

I LOVE the teacup hat! <3 I recently purchased a cupcake dress... that I really need to take pics of... it's not overly loli (more pinup) but it TOTALLY fits into some of the themes set above! <3

[livejournal.com profile] assaultdoor prefers to play with a USB controller, but most of the games will let you map the buttons to the keyboard, which is how I played Chrono Trigger. For turn-based RPGs like that, which aren't dependent on reflexes, I think the keyboard is fine, especially since the emulators let you customize which keys to use. Generally you just have to download the emulator program and the ROM (the game), and occasionally a translation or other patch file to make it work properly ... Are you on Windows or Mac?

While you don't absolutely NEED to get a controller, it'd probably feel very weird playing some of these games on keyboard, so a controller would be good. That said, you can find inexpensive USB controllers pretty much anywhere, and adapters to adapt console controllers to computers. The SNES used a fairly lightweight controller, so pretty much any decent 8 button controller should work. I use these godawful ugly things I got on Woot one time. But they were cheap ($14 for a pair after shipping) and they have this neat USB powered fan thing built in to keep my hands cool. :P

well, cause he wouldnt really use it THAT much and we're trying to save money. :)

I guess I could get him a case for my DS so that it's not as scary? :D

I think he could pull off my DS, but I wouldnt want him to be submitted to that. haha.

Lol!!! If anyone looks at him funny, they'll understand once they see what he's playing. CT's greatness is worth overcoming any obstacle! It transcends all boundaries! XD

As an aside just in case you're interested, looks like Target is selling the regular DS lites for $99.99 now. Saw them earlier tonight at my local Target. I'm betting others are too. Making room for the DSi I suppose?

For Super Nintendo on a Mac, SNES9x is a good emulator with plenty of options for changing keyboard layouts (if you don't have a separate controller), adjusting display settings, and the like. As far as USB controllers go, I liked this gamepad so much that I bought two of them. The analog stick is great for arcade games like Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move, and I use the D-pad for all of my classic games.

Hmm, back when I had an emulator on my laptop, I just mapped my key functions to work for the game I was playing. But then again, all I played was Harvest Moon, and FF4 XD

I first played Chrono Trigger in 2001 on an XP laptop. No trouble at all--ZSNES is one of the best emulators out there, and it will map to keyboard just fine. CT's not generally button-twitchy enough to need more.

When it comes to emulators, they'll come with instructions on how to play them using your keyboard for controls. There are also controllers that you can get that should plug into your usb ports to use instead.

And can I say that those clothes are delicious! How hard is it for you to find the outfits from the magazines that you get? Do you have to import them from Japan?

I get the magazines from Kinokuniya in LA. Someonline communities share pictures from them, though, too.

There are also some services that will give you a subscription/import from Japan, but I prefer to go to Kinokuniya and browse.
