Time to squee about some costume stuff.

Cosworx has just got a bunch of new wig colors, stuff that normally you'd have to dye a wig or order overseas to get. Now we can get it here, easily.
On top of that, they've now got real wefted extensions in all their colors. This may sound like a small thing, but it will make a HUGE time-saving difference for people who like to super-size their wigs. (like us).



Ok, so, oftentimes with costumes, I like to pick something with a crazy wig. Most of the time this involves adding wig-hair extensions to the wig. Sometimes it's because the wig has a weird shape addition (like buns, or big long trailing parts or something) or sometimes it's just because the wig needs to be much much fuller because the character has impossibly puffy hair.... or sometimes it's because I want to change the color of the wig by adding highlights or something.

Unless it is a natural hair color, I have to MAKE a weft myself to use as an extension. Which is irritating in many ways. You have to sew bias tape over it, or use glue... and then it's really tedious to hand sew inside the wig (because the weft isn't as easy to sew as a normal professional weft... it's bulky...)

Some examples of some wigs that used a lot of extensions: Amaterasu, Der Tod, Marie Antionette, Shampoo and Shiva.

For years I've been hoping some company would come out with extension wefts in colors that we use for cosplay. COSWORX has just come out with them!
You can actually sew these wefts DIRECTLY into the wig with your sewing machine. No glue. no handsewing. No cursing. AKLAJLKJ



and not only that, but they come in all the colors... many of which are cosworx exclusive colors. Cosworx just added a bunch of new colors like a beautiful buttery light blonde and a bunch of darker blends and powder colors (like white blended with pink or white blended with yellow...). It's just starting to feel like I don't have to compromise as much anymore. I don't have to go "well I guess this color is close enough." because I can actually FIND IT now.
and some of the colors are so pretty, I want to make a costume just to use it. Case-in-point... Saionji from Utena. Normally, you'd do is hair green. But I wanted to use the cosworx teal color so much (it's a gorgeous blend. OMG) that I did his hair teal, instead.

... my personal favorites are the seafoam green, the dark pink (shown in the weft photo... perfect for stuff like Euphie!) and the Powder yellow.

I wish this stuff had been around when I first wanted to start doing cosplay. I am a perfectionist and refused to settle on bad wigs. I was going to get a custom one made (for a Shampoo costume no less) but I was quoted something like $500... needless to say had these quality wigs been available back then I probably would have gotten more into cosplay myself.
I mostly just admire it from afar now. Maybe someday. :)

I wonder if cosworx will continue to update their mixed colors. i love the pink grey blend, but the color is really streaky vs blended.

I want the new wavy wig. i need more pink wigs lol.

My bitchiest wig was the last one, before I retired from cosplay. It was for Chrono (http://www.lizzard.net/Kyuu/costume_chrono_1.jpg)from Chrono Crusade. I finally gave up and hired a pro to make it for me, because it was such a nightmare to deal with the extensions.

oh mather 'effer....you know I've spent TWO weekends hot gluing dark purple hair to a blue wig BY HAND to make my own Dark Purple/blue mix wig for Catsy from Sailor Moon R?! DHALHDAIHKLDH!

Ooh, some of those colors are really pretty. :-) Think there's any chance they'll do a reddish purple sometime? I'd love to cosplay Sora from Kaleido Star but that idea's been on hold since I fried a wig trying to dye it her color last year. ._.;
