So this is the artist I was talking about, http://www.hayashi-seiichi.jp/

Also, I have some New Year's mochi (with a rat! XD )
but I can't figure out how to eat it. It's very hard. How do you steam or cook mochi? I'm a horrible cook. Last year I exploded it in the microwave, which can't be good luck. Help me!

Today I worked on my Haute Doll articles, patched a couple holes in the wall, primed the downstairs bathroom and took a quart of white paint around the house covering up scratches and such. I can't wait to finish repainting that downstairs bathroom. It's such an ugly shiny yellow. Whose idea was that!
And I went to the gymn. BOOYA.

I saw this guy at the book store the other day. He had dark-dark skin, bleach-blonde tight curls,... tight pants, a leather with fringe cape and shiny pointy shoes...
,,, and quite a swagger!

Looks like it's Hayashi Seiichi?

Here's his Wiki entry.

Looks like he does manga as well.

Hrmm~ My family usually grills/roasts the mochi and put chunks of it into soup - ozouni works best. (There should be a number of recipes online for it~) I can't remember if they did it on the stove or in the toaster oven.

Although they say it's bad luck to cut mochi with a knife, they say to break it with a hammer or knife when it gets hard.

That piece looks like the Lotte Ume Ame candy~ :D I wonder if it's the same person?

A more traditional recipe: http://japanesefood.about.com/od/mochi/r/zoni.htm

Another version of the same thing~ (There's lots of recipes~! :D)
http://www.champuru.net/blog/2008/01/02/ozoni-recipe/
Donna's got a video blog about cooking it somewhere on her site. My family uses chicken instead of seafood.

Hrm~ As for grilling the mochi, if you have a BBQ type set up, just heat the mochi pieces over a grill on both sides like toasting marshmallows- I'm pretty sure a toaster oven (not the slide down ones, but the tray ones with the door) should work nicely.

Because it doesn't have a lot of flavor by itself, we make sauces of kinako powder or sugar/shoyu. You can also take nori and wrap it around the nori like a musubi. It's best when you flip the nori quickly over heat (like an electric stove element to toast it.

I usually slice up my mochi, toast it in a hot pan until it's lightly browned and puffy, and sprinkle the bits on top of ice cream, honey optional. Yum!

waaaah, that sounds awesome! Do I have to put anything in the pan to keep it from sticking? just a medium heat till it looks lightly browned?

I usually don't put anything in, and I make the pan really hot. I've never tried over medium heat though, that might be better-- sometimes I burn mine! They are still tasty though.

where have you been?

(im the one who asked you to use the image of the girl crying in the kimono like 3 years ago). it seems like your art dropped off the face of the planet for a while.

anyway, im glad i found you! come visit my blog at http://artgasim.blogspot.com/ when you get a chance!

You know, if we ever get together, I'll have to show you how to make mochi. We totally grew up loving the stuff; mom used to make it all the time and it was like "Yay, we did good things and mommy's making goodies!"

*hugs Aimee* Anyway, this is Kiva! Just wanted to drop in and say hi! Haven't talked to you or Pogo in FOREVER! Hope you're doing well!
