So my friends and I (HCC) won Best in Show AND Best Anime at World Con with our Trinity Blood costumes! O_O!! Seriously awesome. hopefully we'll have pictures soon to show. one of the things we won was a beautiful Japanese wedding kimono (uchikake)! It's orange with phoenix on it! O_O...

and what did we do next? we went to disneyland! whee! It was fun... there was a lovely breeze, and I loooove char, joshua, judy and aj. We really had a nice weekend... but then someone stole my celphone. :...( and then, like some cruel joke, I ran out of gas on the way home, and since I didn't have my celphone, I couldnt call anyone to help me. I had to walk 8 blocks to the closest gas station and then back to my car in the middle of downtown LA (which is a bit scary...) *_* at least it wasn't dark yet.

However, on to brighter things...! Anyone have some good links for more visual information about women pirates? :) I want to do a pirate costume sometime, maybe for halloween and I need some good picture inspiration. So shoot any male or female pirate links my way!

Ahhh, you stumbled onto one of my obsessions: researching pirate histories. Wikipedia.org has some great information! The only notable female pirates to my knowledge are Anne Bonny and Mary Read, who sailed together. They both were captured and while Mary died in prison, no one knows what happens to Anne.

you may be looking for more theatrical costumes though. It sounds like women went to sea for several reasons, if they were wives and daughters they wore the normal outfits of the day, if they wanted to work, they often dressed as young boys, though I'm sure depending on the ship, different standards might apply. You could research male sea fashion for the same eras and alter things to fit.
