COSTUMING PEEPS-
You guys, where can I get some non-scratchy wide lace to use for the sleeve flounces on an 18th century gown? I hate the stuff I used for my Lia red gown and I want something softer for my Madame de Pompadour. Doesn't have to be a perfect match, but something pretty and soft. I'll probably need to go downtown at some point, but I thought I'd look online first if you guys have any suggestions.

RE: MARKER TUTORIAL. I found my FLIP camera, so I guess I can put it on my gorillapod? (... hmm... wonder where I put that...) so when I'm not all sarsy anymore, I'll do that!

Still dizzy, but I'm feeling better and my brain is functioning, which is nice. I hate feeling useless! For a few days there I couldn't concentrate, read or draw, which is pretty irritating. Anyway, on the way up, I guess, thanks for the well wishes, you guys!

Oh my, If you were up here I would say head down to Laci's textile store/museum and source a yard or two of their vintage lace. Gah, its heavenly, and sounds right up your alley for that type of project.

Have you considered embroidered tulle? Like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/7-5-White-embroidered-tulle-mesh-lace-trim-3-yards_W0QQitemZ330391212494QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4cecd9d1ce

Type "embroidered tulle" into ebay, and you'll get tons of colors, sizes, and styles. I'm going to use it for the cuffs of my next 18th century gown.

what I used for Lia was some probably synthetic embroidered fabric.. (left over from my Trinity Blood (click for closeup) costume) its similar to what you posted there, at least it looks similar. My trouble is I really want it to not be scratchy... so I need something cotton or non-synthetic I guess?

picture of it on Lia:

The tulle I bought is similar to this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/9-embroidered-tulle-mesh-lace-fabric-2yd_W0QQitemZ390139151677QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad61b053d

And it's not scratchy at all. Very, very soft; not stiff at all. The tulle base is not at all like the nylon netting used to stiffen a petticoat. Judging from your pics, the lace you had before is considerably rougher stuff.

I've bought lace/fabric and turned it into wide lace before, it's generally a bit softer. Thoguh it can be a bit expensive to do it that way you have lots of leftovers for another project.

Though I used an embriodered organdy for this project here is a pic. -----> http://www.flickr.com/photos/applcheeks/3128524181/sizes/o/

yeah, that's what I did for Lia, but I think I need to be more careful about getting something soft. (Lia's flounces are left over fabric from Trinity Blood)

I ended up going to the dr and finding it's yet another Sinus infection @_@ I hope you feel better soon too!

I'd say it's best and test the softness of the lace yourself by going to a store since you never know what online stores are like especially depending on how your skin reacts to it.

unfortunately, they just closed right before the new year... i got an email :(

However, I got the wide lace for my oscar's sister's dress, very soft, from the trim place about two doors down from the crystal store in the fabric district :)

I'll be in the fabric district this week. I can peek in my favorite lace store and grab you some swatches, if you'd like.

Sigh. That's what I get for reading LJ at work right before the show starts. That stalker-sounding anonymous post was me.
