makeup and lolita (fall/winter)
Oct. 23rd, 2009 11:53 am
so I haven't bought makeup for a while, but ashbet, fatwetdog and mmymoon had been talking about it lately... ... I went to the mall to check out NARS, Sephora's and MAC's new winter/fall stuff.
I'd been really preferring lately on using loose mineral pigments for eyeshadow, for the intensity,... but still NARS' Mekong eyeshadow really caught my eye. It's really a powerful and dark "gold-infused expresso", but still sparkly. (much more powerful than it appears on the website) I'll look forward to doing a smokey eye with it. I also liked the Fast Ride Lipstick. It's really creamy and has a romantic dark mulberry look. You'd THINK I would LOVE the Angelika light pink sparkly blush... but the pink is just too baby-pink for my skintone apparently.
Also really liked Smashbox's LIMITLESS LONG WEARING LIP GLOSS in "Non-stop", a great candy pink glassy gloss, not too sticky. I've had kindof a crush-on for pink glassy lip gloss ever since the first time I went to Tokyo. Glad you can get that kind of style here now, too (actually for a while, you've been able to, happily.)
Loved the pink-wigged Marie Antoinette-styled packaging on Too Faced' Glamour Revolution gift set... but somehow convinced myself I didn't need it. close-up of the front of the package. The funny (and not great) thing is that that bright pink shadow you see on the model in the packaging is not included in the gift pack! Still, very adorable packaging.
I wanted to check out MAC's Style Black (AKA, the goth line), but they didn't have any of the black lipsticks in the store! LAME! I don't particularly care for their mineralize metallics, either... I don't like the large metallic flakes.
Forever21 has some really cute beret's right now. I got a black one with light gold metallic polka dots on it! Lots of stores, including F21, right now have a lot of fabulous military-jacket and biker-jacket inspired bits. I'm always weak for that.
-------------------
on the LOLITA front, ... Have you guys noticed? BTSSB is doing LL sizes now.
Not just with the GloomyBear stuff, either. this unreleased pocket JSK in their fall/winter print catalog comes in LL. Be interesting to see what the LL measurements for this JSK will be as their L measurements vary greatly. I love this dress though... they had it a while back, so it's nice to see it rereleased in more sizes. (it comes in pink, brown, navy and black apparently, thanks to addictive_sugar ) I already have some black and pink... so I might go for navy or brown. Brown lately is pretty charming, kindof a fairy tale forest feel if coordinated well. .... but black X black is always good.
Twinkle Snow Crystal comes in slightly larger size, too (in fact, it's not marked as "L" but it's larger than the "L" sized Friend Usakumya. (I don't prefer that kind of gathered bodice though... it emphasizes the boobs too much on me.)
From Angelic Pretty English Store, I picked up the "Satin ribbon knit bolero" and "Milky of the fawn fake far parka" sweatshirt hoodie, both in white. Hopefully they'll fit. I've been wanting this type of thing for a while. I've tried other options and have SOME stuff from Anthro that works... but we'll see. I really love the heart pattern on the knit bolero,... and the faux pink fur and the pink deer head embroidery is really adorable.
and as always, I love Emily Temple Cute's fashion blog. So buying a knitted/crocheted flower scarf like this. (though I do already have SOME stuff like that... )

Date: 2009-10-23 08:05 pm (UTC)Too Faced's packaging always kills me! Oh man! I've decided I'm not wild about their actual cosmetics (don't hate it, just don't think it's particularly great for the price compared to other brands) but their packaging... I've bought so many things from them simply for the cuteness factor. And that--! *dieeeeeees*
I wish it did have the bright pink, as I need one, but the colors look pretty good for me. Hmmmmmmm...
I don't like the MAC Mineralize stuff, either. I'd just buy, you know, minerals. For way cheaper. :P
I usually ignore brand stuff since there's no hope -- what's an LL in, uh, American sizing/general measurements? Almost certainly no chance with tops, ahem, but I actually have a relatively small waist, so skirts... sometimes... if the hip poof is enough be convincing... (I can actually fit a lot of Meta, but it's, um, not quite the desired effect. Bootylicious, in fact.)
Black x black FOR LIFE.

Date: 2009-10-23 09:03 pm (UTC)like I said, BABY's measurements vary from dress to dress, so what's L in one dress is not the same as L in another dress. You just have to wait and see what the actual measurements are.
I'm a 38 inch bust and 32 inch waist, roughly, and USUALLY the L size BABY stuff is a perfect fit for me, but some of their L size stuff is too small for me.
like they're listing this Gloomy hoody as LL:
http://www.babyssb.co.jp/shopping/gurumi/105P729/index.html
but that doesn't mean that all their stuff will nessesarily be the same size for LL.
is that what you wanted to know?
Their sizing is never the same as American sizing... Their normal stuff (roughly they call "M" most of the time) is a Japanese medium... which is pretty small. But sometimes their normal (non-L size) stuff is larger than their L stuff!
so I guess the bottom line is, watch for back-shirred, shirred, L-size and LL-sized stuff, and then check the actual measurements.
pattern mook LL sizes, totally different from BABY, too. you'll have to look at the measurements.

Date: 2009-10-24 02:06 am (UTC)(Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee look, this one comes with a clutch! http://www.toofaced.com/product_template.asp?dept_sub_id=27&dept_id=10&cat_id=142 *dies more*)
Oh, I know -- when you think about it, it's not all THAT different from murky S/M/L/XL sizing here. Sizes vary so drastically, even within brands. (I just got some Old Navy stuff that I fit a 1X in some shirts with room to spare, and a 3X in others. Go figure.)
I just wondered if there was a general... range. Not that there's much hope, as I'm -- again generally -- a 2X, but. ;) I'm guessing none of it will approach what would here be labeled as plus -- although, who knows? Depending on how well stock sells in-shop!
The stupider the collaboration, alas, the more I seem to love it. I want Hello Kitty x Tokidoki x Gloomy Bear x Tarina Tarantino x BTSSB... RIDING A PONY. Mwahahaha.

Date: 2009-10-24 02:17 am (UTC)Those colors are even prettier! (IMHO, after having used both, the leopard bronzer is nice and seems like it would work with a lot of skintones, whereas that Chocolate Soleil... well, I had to send it to my friend to try, because honestly, it looks like rubbing cocoa powder into your face. O_o Which only works if your skin is actually the color of cocoa powder.)
Hot pink, black, and some nice neutrals. Plus... HOT pink haired graphic label. I think I may have to get that once my makeup budget resets! I wonder if that cute pink kabuki brush is worth owning. (It has cherry blossoms on it! I am such a dork for cute.)

Date: 2009-10-23 11:17 pm (UTC)Their original full-shirring dresses barely fit me [k, and length was fail], L-size shirring dress is THE BEST dress evah, and now LL-sized gloomy bear hoodies? OMG, heaven! *watches wallet cry*
the LL-size on the skirt doesn't seem all that big tho ;_;

Date: 2009-10-24 11:53 am (UTC)I wish I could wear that stuff... but I'm just... NOT fluffy. Really, if I were to go into any sort of exciting Japanese Fashion, I would need to go text-book EGA.
Surprised by the eyebrows on the Marie Antoinette set. They are mammoth. *_*

Date: 2009-10-24 04:10 pm (UTC)"Too Faced' Glamour Revolution gift set" Saw that at Sephora and thought of you, since you are all about Marie Antoinette and the frills. It's such lovely packaging. I was personally amused by the new(er?) OPI matte nail polish so I got some in black. Finally...non-shiny nailpolish. Sure, it looks like I just put on a layer of tshirt acrylics on my fingers, but it's so GOOD.
I love those Milky cardigans and the ETC top with the purple fur trim...so cute! I really want a deer cardi too...the little ears are so precious!
