can anyone help me figure out the kanji to say "CAKE OR DEATH" ?

蛋糕 = cake (I THINK??) (katakana = ケーキ )
死 = death

I'd say :
ケーキか死

ケーキ isn't kanji, but that's the common way to write cake. There's 菓子 if you really want kanji, but the meaning is pastry in this case.

I'm not 100% fluent in Japanese so maybe there's a better translation that someone could suggest :)

Well, I just checked in my electronic dictionary and 菓子 also means cake. It's used very often I just wanted to double check the meaning :)

If you just want to say "cake," then ケーキ would be more common.

Then death is 死 or "shi."

Put it together to make "Cake or Death?" and it would be:

ケーキですか。 死ですか。

By the way, I LOVE that Eddie Izzard bit.

"You there, CAKE OR DEATH?"
"Uh, cake please."
"Very well! Give him cake. You there! CAKE OR DEATH?"
"Uh, cake for me, too, please."
"Very well, give him cake, too."
"And you! CAKE OR DEATH?"
"Uh, death please. No I meant cake!"
"Ahhh, you said death first!"
"No I meant cake."
"Oh, all right. Give him cake."

*dork moment*

The 'か' is like a verbal question mark so maybe to shorten it, it could be 'ケーキか 死か'.

Is it for your coat?! That's AWESOME!!! :D

Is that why you want to write it in kanji?

I say just write 'cake' in katakana; Ichigo went with 'arigato' in hiragana. ^_^

Teh interwebz seem to agree with ケーキですか, 死ですか。

I'd go with the first suggestion above; people didn't really use "菓子" for cake in my experience, more for various sweets (which may have been pastries, squares, etc). But if you mean cake, as in something iced and generally fluffy and cylindrical, I think that more specifically is "ケーキ"; or rather, ケーキ will bring that to mind, whereas 菓子 might vary from person to person.

Keep in mind I'm by no means fluent either, just basing it on my experience (which was now a few years ago, so memory might be failing as well).

"Gâteau ou mort," ou "Le gâteau ou la mort."

Sorry, that's as best as I can do.

I'd use Katakana "kake" (sorry, work computer doesn't type Japanese!) then Shi for "death"

You could say "kake, shi, dochi desu ka?" (Cake, Death, Which do you prefer? - essentially)

I'll double check my phrasing with my roommate when I get home tonight tho (and type it out)
