moving on,... so, I've done some fun shopping lately! Mostly window shopping, but,... hey! :)

:::: SHOES::::
for my fellow big-footed women, I've found rainboots in women's US11! This is significant in that MOST stores just don't carry rainboots in 11 at all and if they do, they are uglymancolors.
~~Chooka boots. PL has Chookas if you search.
~~VS has different Chookas
~~Landsend has some cute Argyle and dotted wellies!.

::::COATS::::
I've yet to find a good coat that I LOVE yet. What I REALLY want is a black WARM wool coat that goes down at least to my thighs and has military detailing.
ala Dolce & Gabbana's fall 06 line. the men's is even more fabulous.

:::: SHIRTS and ACCESSORIES ::::

I picked up these shirts from silkplanet. A bit Kaylee, huh?

There's lots of star print stuff out there now. I ended up getting This star scarf and this chiffon top (which I'll layer over colorful tshirts. Reminds me of AP's Milky Way collection

also interesting is the explosion of crayon-bright colors right now. I like it, actually. It's very 80's Cyndi Lauper. I find myself wanting to go through my closet and see what type of accessorizing or layering items I could use, because what a lot of stores are doing right now is offering a lot of basic layering items in like EVERY color under the sun. Like jeans or cardigans, or scarves, or tulle over-skirts... in all the colors!

What are your favorite items lately? :)

Your steampunk jacket is coming along very nicely. How exactly is that detailing applied on the back, if you don't mind me asking?

I purchased a Max Azria coat last winter that was very similar to this one:

http://www.bluefly.com/BCBGMAXAZRIA-black-wool-melton-belted-long-coat/SEARCH/212402400/detail.fly

except that it was a musky green color with a higher waistline, but I love it and it is ever so warm. I also paid over $600 for it, so this black one is a real steal at that price. Buttoned up, the neck makes a sort-of high cowl that can either be pulled up or folded down, and if unbuttoned further it creates a really lovely fold over the chest that is quite flattering.

I haven't looked through bluefly yet, thanks for the recommendation! I'm not sure if I want to spend that much though, since I don't get to wear warm coats that often. It's so hot here all the time! ... but these jackets are so gorgeous! :(! maybe...!

as to my steampunk jacket, the gold parts are embroidered on my machine (I drew out the design and AJ converted it to an embroidery file and then embroidered it with my machine), and then some clock gears were handsewn on.... and then the rhinestones are heat-set on.

1. LOVE the jacket.
2. Rainboots in my size! Yay! Oh, if only I had an excuse to wear them. :P
3. I hate buying coats. So few of them are functional, never mind cute or elegant (well, especially in my size, but even in regular sizes). I really like full-length coats, which are useful in the wind and rain of Bay Area winters, but they're SO hard to find. Last year, anything past the waist was impossible to buy.

yeah I need something functional but pretty! if I can't find something that meets my criteria then I just won't bother. I'll wear my old jacket (which I don't really like, but oh well.)

Those star scarfs were all over China when I went. I almost picked up a few, but didn't. So cute!

Ohhh goddd that black D&G coat is so hot, so hot omg. If I saw someone on the street wearing that I'd have to.. not finish that thought LOL *cough*

I threw together a steampunk outfit from thrift store items last year... and then didn't wear it anywhere XD;; oops

I too am curious about the applique on the back, it's so pretty!

random cosplay question: when you bend PVC pipe with a heat gun, is there any sort of strategy to bend gradual, soft curves? I want to make an S-curved scythe handle.

You should take pictures of your steampunk! I bet you found some cool stuff!

isn't that a great D&G coat?? GUH !

as to bending PVC, just do it slowly, dont do any drastic curves. Don't get the gun too close. Basically, you don't want to compromise the strength or thickness of the plastic.

Hi Aimee,

What are your favorite items lately? :)

I'm so in LOVE with polarity's creations on Etsy! I love her lockets and bracelets! I intend to use her smaller mini lockets with all the 1" buttons I've bought over the years from people X)!

A friend here, Laura/[livejournal.com profile] just_laura, introduced me to mintconspiracy's Somethings. They're so adorable and so collectible! The small Somethings are really small and the big ones are, ummm, really big XD! I think the medium ones are just right, so I'm waiting for her to make some of those, but she makes more small ones in several varieties like her Halloween Booski or Ninja Something, both of which I need to catch. You can 'stalk' her Etsy updates via the feed, [livejournal.com profile] mintconspiracy

Finally, I spent way too much time at Staples recently stuffing their large plastic tub with pretty colored and designer patterned paper clips and binder clips! They have multi-colored paper clips; paper clips shaped like hands, stars, and hearts; and pretty binder clips with patterned designs 8}! A small tub costs $5.99 and a large one costs $9.99. Just fill them up as best you can and snap on the lid. With a lot of thought and 'engineering,' I think I managed to fill a large tub with 2 times the amount of stuff that a normal person would fill it, so I got my money's worth definitely! The people at Staples didn't seem to mind me squishing as much as I could too!
