CARMEN

Well, what can I say, it was fabulous. Where Madama Butterfly had gorgeous songs but strange direction, strange costumes... Carmen had everything. The songs were amazing, the acting was riveting and the movement on the stage was spellbinding. I'm too tired to describe it in way that would give it justice, but it was wonderful. Even when Carmen wasn't the point of the scene, she smolders in the corner in a single evolving pose. excellent.
This one and the Marriage of Figaro (so far) are my favorites. :)

Wow, it was realy cloudy today!

Mitch and I brought some turkey sandwiches from a deli and sat outside by the fountains.

BTW. Friends, please don't wear tshirts, fishing hats and ugg boots to the Opera. I mean REALLY. We saw far too much of that today. (and Dear, Opera, why don't you have a dress code!?)

on the way from our car we saw this:
OH MY GOD. SO AWESOME. (Arch your back and look back at me, mean, like a dragon!)

Afterwards we had some amazing italian food and a great chardonnay that Mitch's dad gave us. MMM.

the obligatory bathroom shot of my outfit:
necklace, jcrew dress, Anthropologie sweater, bag, bracelet.

Love Carmen, one of my favorite operas.
Opera has no dress code, i would guess, because they have enough trouble getting people to come, and it's expensive to put on an opera. :/

yeah, I'm sure that's the reason, it just seems disrespectful. *_* (ie to wear a tshirt.)

Is that a hint of electric blue eyeshadow I spy with my little eye? It goes really well with your hair. What brand/shade eye-color is that?

^_^ it's mac freshwater mixed with some lighter blue. It's not super electric, but it's pretty bright.

I completely agree about the dress code. Adam and I went to a couple local opera productions, both modern and classic, and some people dressed so horribly. You HAVE to show respect for the performers and the art, you know?

Besides.... don't all girls especially want to get all princessy from time to time?

it's not like you have to dress expensively either,... I'm sure these people must at least own a nice shirt or a tie or something, right...?
(I agree!)

Only in California would people wear ugg boots to an opera... lol

But at least you and Mr. Hubby look dashing. That antropologie sweater is so cute! I love the bow!

:( I gave my friend the choice of going to see Carmen or The Magic Flute for her birthday and she chose Mozart! (I really wanted to see Carmen!)

Although TMF *does* have the gorgeous baritone Nathan Gunn singing! What??? He can sing too - but it doesn't hurt that he's hot!!! http://nathangunn.com/

I bet the Magic Flute will be great, too! We're going to see that one too. :) Looking forward to it!
