A few things I've been musing about who-dom lately...

--------- ROSE and the whole PLATONIC LOVE DOCTOR idea. ---------
- so I've been getting some back issues of the Doctor Who Magazine. Which, while a costly endeavor due to shipping and the UK/USA exchange rate, on the whole, is very rewarding. The magazine overall is really well written and has interviews and behind the scenes items that actually SAY something rather than just kinda rehashing what happened in the episodes. I first started buying it with the excuse of costume-recreation. The photos in the magazine make it really easy to see the details of various things, but lets face it, I just need more WHOCRACK.

ANYWAY, there was a "goodbye to Rose" issue right after season 2.
Overall I really liked the article. It talked about what made Rose a distinctive companion, her good and bad points. Broke down specific Rose-centric events and what that meant about her character development and her relationship and effect on the Doctor. Pretty insightful, actually!
But then the article basically says, "It's obvious that the Doctor and Rose had a deep love, but a platonic love only" and proceeded with a few bullshit proofs of that.
COME ON. It's so blatant that it is NOT a platonic love. yes, it is ALSO that, but they make it pretty obvious in the show that they fancy each other not just as good friends. I'm rather shocked that someone could force this in this way... especially in the DW magazine?
I guess it's just another example of people being ZOMG the Doctor is anti-sexual and being offended by the idea of him having any sort of romantic entanglement. I can UNDERSTAND the perspective, honestly. Because he is the 900 year-old oncoming storm. I can see how it would feel a bit "beneath" him to have a romantic entanglement. But that's what makes it so fun and interesting.
and really, lets call a SPADE a SPADE... RTD certainly already did, they were in LOVE. bless his little fanboy heart. No matter how much I love Moffat, I'll always be grateful to RTD.

------- NO FULL-ON ANGST for CHRISTMAS? ---------
the 400th issue of Doctor Who Magazine has an interview with David Tennant and he said this re: the 2009 Christmas Special (from svanderslice's journal):
don't worry, no real spoilers

"It doesn't carry on immediately from the end of series four. It was going to in the first draft of the script, but then it was decided that the ending of episode thirteen, was so kind of momentous and bleak that actually the Doctor may just need a bit of time out. An undisclosed amount of time has passed, and he lands in 1851, in London. It's Christmas Eve, and he's having quite a nice time until he hears...well, until it all starts to go wrong."

I really like this idea.
I was just thinking today, that some time has passed FOR US, the viewers since the heartbreak of season 4. right as it happened, I was desperate for more content.

but now... it's kinda good, I think, that time is passing before we get any more content. It feels like a natural progression. Like after a bad breakup, eventually, it doesn't hurt so bad anymore, you get zen about it, the sky is blue and you have a nice day.
I like the idea of there being hope for the Doctor, even though I love the angst.
That's part of why I loved the idea of River Song.

So for us and the Doctor some time has passed. I like that!
though I do hope we get to see a few inklings of mourning, like we got in season 3/4. :)

--------- AVOIDING THE COMMS ---------
I've found that after S.4 people started immediately speculating whether David Tennant would be leaving and posting all this gossip mag bullshit on the DW comms.
I just don't even want to see the LJ-CUT tag for it.
If he leaves, I want to hear about it while I'm watching the show as a natural progression of the story and not before.
So I don't think I'll be watching any of the comms... maybe not even until well into S.5. I don't like the speculation, it spoils it for me.

--------- I CAN HAS MORE FANFIC? ---------
have you guys read any fabulous Rose/Ten or Rose/Ten2 fanfics lately?
There was a plethora of them right after S.4, but a couple of my favorites haven't been updating lately... and well I hadn't had time to read for weeks and I was really hoping for more gems, but I haven't really found many in a quick glance.

-------- ROSE COSTUME COLLECTIOn ---------
hur hur hur...
so, since I'm a huge dork, I've been collecting a few of Rose's pieces of clothing that I liked from the show. (You can find them on ebay sometimes).
So far I have:

Journey's End -
a passable blue fake-leather jacket and berry-colored shirt

Christmas Invasion -
I have her actual Diesel jacket (YEEEEAAAY!). I love it regardless of it being who-related... and I love it even more because it's the same jacket that she wears when she first meets the tenth doctor AND when she says she's going to stay with the Doctor forever. I love that you see it briefly in Love and Monsters, too. Makes it feel like it's really part of her wardrobe.
I also have a grey hoodie that I'm going to mod to look like hers.

The Empty Child-
I have a passable black jacket (for $7!) and a union jack shirt. :D

The Impossible Planet
passable shirt from PunkyFish! :D

The Idiot's Lantern
I now have her actual Topshop Jacket, so next time I wear my costume it'll be more complete.

Tooth and Claw
made her shirt!. I have good boots for it, too, but I'm leaving the dungarees as incentive to keep loosing weight.

Boom Town -
I have a lot of things that could pass as stuff from this, like my normal jean's jacket and red fingerless gloves basically all I need is the scarf (which I've commissioned) and her skirt, which I'm waiting for awesome legs for :P

The Long Game
I have this punkfish top which is almost the same as the one she wears in the Long Game except it's hot pink! :)

I honestly don't want anything else. I'm having fun mixing them in with my normal wardrobe. :D

I could survive for 47 seconds chained to a bunk bed with a velociraptor
