I couldn't bring myself to like Kaylee's dress. It's just something about how the waist and the neckline are, I think. Not flattering, somehow. Or maybe the top would look better with different skirt detailing. It's almost as if they're two separate designs. I can't really place exactly why that dress doesn't sit right with me.. cute, but something's odd to my eyes.
But that one on the left is sooo pretty! I especially LOVE the bows and x-crossing down the front. Really sets it off.

I agree. It looks like it was designed by someone who isn't a clothing designer at all. The pyramidal shape of the skirt, instead of being a nice bell or arc shape, is one of the issues, I think. (Plus the mismatch between the bodice and the skirt, yes.) The neckline is weird, too. Of course, that could all be intentional. (DEAR WHEDON FANATICS PLEASE DON'T BEAT ME TO DEATH.)

The Angelic Pretty dress shows a lot more sense of design and balance, despite being just as over the top, I think.

awww, that's the point. Kaylee's dress is supposed to be slightly hideous. She loves it because she's a mechanic girl whose been living in space and never wears a dress. To her it is the ultimate gorgeous, but to anyone who is more experienced in being girly and seeing fancy dresses, it's at least slightly badly designed.
