I normally don't watch the news for a huge laundry list of reasons, but I am so SICKENED by their coverage and glorification of the Virginia Tech murderer that when I was sitting in the VW dealership waiting for the shuttle... and they had that on the tv, I actually had to go around the corner so that I didn't have to look at it or hear it.

I hope you guys aren't watching this horrific crap. My immediate thought is because of how much coverage they are giving this guy (which is EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED) how many more similar massacres are we going to see with the murderer sending his trophy photos in to the news. And people watched this. It got huge ratings. I'm so grossed out and dissappointed in people.

In nicer news, my parents are adorable. They decided they had to "get away" this past weekend, so they drove up to NC on their bike to look at waterfalls and mountains. I can totally respect that.

also.. I really need to clean the bedroom today. There's just piles of clothes everywhere. They are clean, but... I'm starting to feel like Marjory (the trash heap from fraggle rock) is moving into my bedroom:

I was trying pretty hard to not read or watch the news. Up until this morning I had no idea what the killer even looked like, and I didn't want to.

But I opened the BBC news page (BRITISH news, right?) and on the AMERICAS section the biggest picture is that little bastard's face looking sly.

ugh. The media has won..

I totally agree with you about how the news. We rarely watch the television at all -- we don't have cable and have to actually unplug the DVD player and plug in an antenna to get any reception -- but I made the mistake of turning it on the other day while I was doing some handsewing, but had to turn it off again right away, because the Virginia Tech coverage was so horrific and sensationalistic.

Your parents are so cute! They even have matching jackets and helmets. ^_^

school shootings ARE a new thing. they didnt happen in the 1940's, or the 1800's. so they havent been happening since -schools- have been around, they've been happening since television was invented. i hate to sound like a broken record, but in this case, the news/media IS responsible for the increase in school shootings due to the sensationalism of them. a kid who is disturbed and wants attention now sees shooting up his classmates as an option because everytime one happens, they get DAYS of coverage. he gets attention. everyone knows his name and his face now. it's what he wanted: to be recognized, and validated, and not just a nobody full of pain. if the news would contain themselves, and people in general stop-off their curiosity for this kind of bloodshed and not goad the stations into running this kind of shit on an infini-loop, i think these happenings would trickle down and stop in the next few years. i mean, good lord, they ran that crap for 6 hours the first day. enough is enough. report something else! ><

btw, you look so much like your mom! that's so cute ^^

I haven't watched anything on it, actually... I'd rather be watching CSI :p.

I LOVE FRAGGLE ROCK! I had this awesome FR book when I was a kid... too bad I lost it.

And motorcycles are awesome. Looks like fun!

(re trash) Well, at least now that the sewing room *has light*, you can start to relocate some of the crafty things down to there bit by bit.

The last widely covered news story that didn't involve death, sex, or a combination of the two was when they pulled baby Jessica out of that well two decades ago. Asking the media not to report the story when someone kills a bunch of people is like asking person to stop breathing air.

Ooh...what kind of bike do your parents have? Mine went out for a ride with friends yesterday too. Dad has a yellow Honda Goldwing and even has the matching yellow jackets to go with it. Let's just say, Mom is less than excited. :) YAY for parents having fun!!

Yea. That is why I don't watch the news. It either depresses me, or pisses me off.

It is important to report, but don't report it for so long, and definately do not glorify the situation.

Your parents are so cute. Looks like they had the perfect weather for being out on the bike. :) (Can't wait until Mum's new trike is finished, so I'll be able to go on the back again!)

I completely agree with you about the media. It repulses me. Nowadays I try to avoid the mass media as much as possible and I'm much happier for it. It's sad when just flipping on the TV for five minutes, or flipping through a magazine is all it takes to become completely disgusted and disillusioned with humanity...

On a lighter note, I really like how your work room is looking! It's so pretty and girly! Lovely delicate, sugary colours! <3
