I went into a shoe store that I hadn't tried in a while to see if they had red shoes in my size. They of course, didn't, however, I got to watch a mother and daughter trying on shoes while I waited.

They were both trying on the same pair of shoes. Their bodies were obscured by a pole.

So... I was thinking that it might be possible to incorporate haori (short kimono jacket) into my regular casual wardrobe, much in the same way that I've seen people wear shirt-dresses open (layered over other things).... hopefully without looking like a bag lady.

I think that it would look lovely . . . either open, or with a wide belt over it. It's definitely a beautiful, striking piece, and one that would make you look elegant, not bag-lady-ish at all :)

When I worked at the museum and even now, I like to wear vintage haori or michiyuki over a turtleneck and a skirt or pants. It's a look that can seem professional, but still individual. I never thought that I looked dumpy or like a bag lady and you being taller, the look will be even more elegant.

Haori would look lovely on you, as they look so elegant with their clean, simple lines. They often fall to about the hips on us somewhat taller folk, but a longer one might work with a belt... They compliment a modern look very nicely without screaming "look-it's-ethnic-wear!!", and you certainly would not look like a bag lady!!

I have a number of vintage haori that I wear as light jackets (well, that's pretty much what they ARE.) :)
