Sakuran and mermaids

So, the original manga, Sakuran, is by the same lady (Anno, Moyoko) who did Sugar Sugar Rune. I enjoyed both... Sakuran is about a yujo (basically an oiran/tayu type thing.). Sugar Sugar Rune (a infinitely lighter tale) is about little girl witches with the names of sugar and candy. :)

and now they are making it into a movie (with Anna Tsuchiya in the lead!) I'm SO THERE. look how colorful it looks! looks like fun, I hope it turns out well.

the translations a little hard to follow, but it seems like Anna is a total win for casting this character. :D

I want a dress too, but that's never gonna happen. I was just looking at ebay and all the dresses there are either custom made knocks offs using pictures taken from the Japanese sites or charging shipping that's twice as much as the dress. Too bad I don't have the patience to make one.

well, there are some non-slave-labor people,... but asking for a custom, well-made dress replica,... often times to get a GOOD ONE, it's almost as much as just buying brand.

a lot of loli dresses aren't really that hard to make, it's just a lot of frothy lace on top, which in itself is easy. this particular dress wouldnt be very hard to make (the skirt is basically a rectangle, and the bodice, a basic bodice piece.)
but the custom fabric with mermaids on it, and custom-lace, that's what makes it worth it to me. :)

I've drastically pared down my lolita-buying cause it's so expensive, but every once in a while, something like this comes around.
