so, lately I've been doing storyboard revisions along with timing at work. (which basically is me taking the director's thumbnails or rough sketches and pretty-ing them up) Both are pretty fun, you know, as things go.

as to comics... how many pages is too many? I keep doing a drawing or two when I get some free time for my Japan sketchbook... and at this point I'm getting concerned that I may be doing TOO MANY (and I still have a somewhat large list left of topics to draw). I guess that's a good thing, I could always post one a day of the extras until I'm done with them. ha... I'll have to self-publish, at least to start, and it'll be black and white to keep the costs down.

but seriously, how many pages roughly would be good?

random question: what do you think about the format of this journal?
-- do you prefer the doll and costuming posts hiden away in separate journals as they are now?
-- do I talk about useless stuff here too much?
-- more art, less talk?

I enjoy reading about anything and everything that excites or interests you, whether it's dolls, costuming, manga, anime, art, work, or husband ;)

But I think you should keep journaling using whatever system works best for you.

Less worrying, more talking/arting/emoing/dolls/everything! Do whatever you want, it's everyone else's job to read or not read what you write.

And the layout is totally pretty!!
Also... the more pages the better, I say, as long as the content is there.

I don't think you can ever have too many drawings. ^^ But when you say 'how many', what are you referring to? Do you mean page-wise in a book?

I always like to read your comments and as other people said before, you should write about whatever you like. I liked to read you LJ before it became friends-only, so that was 3-4 years ago. You just wrote about what happened in your life and stuff...

about the comic: I say, the bigger the better but then again I don't have to pay to produce it and additionally I think I can't buy it because I don't have paypal and I'd have to pay quite some shipping costs, I fear.

I like reading everything but I wouldnt complain if you posted more art, just because I am selfish and like your art and therefore would like to see more of your art :D

What kind of comic are you doing? If it's one story, I would say "enough to tell the story" or "enough to get to a good breaking point in the story." I think if anything when people are buying work they don't know, they like the feeling they're getting a lot for their money (but not spending too much to start off) - so maybe research a good balance of printing cost and content and aim for that?

I think your journal is fine as it is. I would still read if you folded more costuming/doll talk back in or crossposted. I like how the journal isn't 'just business' but is quite human. Still, it's your journal, do what feels right to you.

It's lovely to see your art and costumes, but it's also wonderful to see the person behind the art ;)
That's what I have to say ^^

The book is not really a comic persay...

it's short, typically one-panel (or 3 panel) comics about experiences I had in Japan. Some of them are diagrams or explanation drawings of interesting things about Japanese culture. so basically, I'm covering events I thought were amusing or telling, and then also explaning things about japanese culture that I think is interesting.

(and thankyou for the opinions on my journal, I appreciate it)

Well, in that case I'd say for a short story, 25 pages is good and I think that's what a lot of manga use (I do believe it's because they have a page-limit). For a longer story, 45 is a good number, I think. It all depends on the publisher, I guess. If you're going to self-publish, it's all up to you and I'd take as many pages as needed to tell the story, without drawing it out too much, and also without cutting it off too soon. Also keep in mind that usually the more pages = more money. I recently published a book that had 42 pages and it cost me $11 to make, though it was in full color.

Also, on the topic of your journal, I'd leave it how it is. I enjoy reading about everything you post, so... :) I especially love seeing your cosplay~ ♥

I really enjoy just about anything you write about in either journal. You are an interesting person, with alot of fun things to talk about, whether it be dolls, costumes, japan, art or the hubby.

I counted the approx layouts today and I already have 80 pages! O_O! I'm guessing I will probably have around 100 when I'm done. I hope that's not going to be too huge for people to buy it.

If you're planning on gathering your comics in a book, even if you don't start them out that way, your page count will generally be a multiple of four. Typically, American comics are 32 pages, plus four for the cover, minus however many the publisher reserves for advertising and other features (e.g. fan mail page). So, basically, if your page count doesn't come to a multiple of 4 (preferrably a multiple of 16), you might have to include some extras to pad out the blamk pages.

As for how many of your strips to include, that depends onthe proportions you drew them in and how many will stack when reduced to fit the width of your page. That said, include as many as comprise a logical chapter together.

I read and enjoy all of your posts, regardless of what they're about! Please keep being Aimee and I will keep reading. No need to change a thing. ♥ =^^=

As for the book, I'm not sure... I guess it would depend on how much it would cost you to publish it! I don't mind a lot of pages, since I go through them pretty fast if it's interesting material.

thanks!

I think I"m going to lay it out more like a picture book than a comic book... (the drawings are more like diagrams and 1-3 panel comics)

I didn't know that about multiples of 4. Right now I'm at about 80 pgs. I guess I'm curious, is there a point where people are like "this book is too big and I don't want to pay for it". :)
