wah... I want something like this lovely girls kimono in my size. :P This style/type is meant for little girls, huh?

(even adult women's kimono, I can't wear most of the time, I'm too tall... my arms are too long. *_*)

I'm extremely curious if there is some place out there that (speaks english and ) takes commissions for authentic kimono sets (with all the awesome stuff, including shoes, matching bag, all the underpinings, etc...) I really really really really really really want one. :...(

I know when we were in Japan, I saw a few places that made kimono for people, to order... but I didn't think too much about it at the time. I wouldn't mind saving up for something special like that.

bleh. I might as well just try and make my own geta or zori. :P no one will ever have my size! *eyes block of wood*

Ehh it's very lovely. Looks like something for the Shichi-go-san festival. (little kid festival at shrines in november).

Sometimes you can find relatively knew goregous furisode after Seijin no hi (coming of age festival).

Granted, proper kitsuke (kimono wearing) for us at this point means that a furisode (long sleeved) kimono is out of the question, because 1. Married, 2. over the age of 25. (still I've seen goregous Homongi's and tomesode kimonos that are still just as beautiful.)

Where to find someone who makes kimono..is a bit tougher? I can list lots of great venders who have bolts of fabric. I know offhand KyotoKimono does custom jobs, but I've never used them, and I'm skeptical about their quality. http://www.kyotokimono.com/WhatsForSale/CustomMadeKimonos.html

Naomi has a couple of links on her site, but most of the vendors sell used kimonos. Still, worth a shot? http://www.immortalgeisha.com/links_01.php

Best of luck. :/

gahh Yike.

(early in the morning that one of my sentences sounded odd).

PS. Just because it's not 'proper' to wear a furisode, if you want one, get one and wear it! ^_^ I have 2 of them myself, and I do still wear them on occasion. :) Apologies if the furisode comment sounds blunt. ;_; (not meant to be) I know that I was surprised when I found out wearing a kimono isn't just wearing an article of clothing. How you wear it shows your social status and availability. :)

Actually, there's a saying that furisode sleeves on a young girl's kimono are supposed to help her 'lure' or 'catch' the spirit of her husband in them.

Anyways, I'm sure you'll find one! Don't give up! :)

sorry if that sounded short, I'm kinda in a hurry this morning... point is, I'd rather wear what I want within reason, since it's not like I'd be wearing it that often anyway. and I dont know enough about which season has which designs, so I wouldnt really worry about that either. I'd just liket o have a really pretty kimono set. ^_^

Maybe gather some info online and put as much money aside for that as you can, so when you to to Japan next time, you can get one custom-made that will fit you perfectly, no sticking-out arms and such.

What about the local kimono shops here in Little Tokyo? I've heard that some are willing to work on commissions. It doesn't hurt to go inquire about it.

You have my sympathies about being too tall ^^;
I'm like that myself and have a hard time finding pants the right length
...that is one hell of a cute kimono :)

I have similar height/weight/bust issues when it comes to kimono . . . I would dearly love a furisode (hey, I'm not a conventional married woman, why should I have to follow kimono convention if I'm wearing it for my own pleasure?), but I also run into the problem of fit.

I have a couple of men's kimono (they were sold to me as funereal wear/mourning wear, although they're black with white mons and white sleeve linings -- my understanding is that traditional mourning wear would be white, but who knows these days?) . . . they fit well, although I'm more prone to wear them with a corset than with an obi, in part because that secures them better (and because I think the 'traditional' cylinder shape with padding doesn't suit my figure strengths.)

I guess the question to ask is whether you want to wear a traditional kimono in the traditional way, or whether you want a Thing Of Beauty to wear on special occasions, without being too perturbed about whether it's the right season/style.

Good luck!!
