razr working with a mac?
Apr. 18th, 2006 08:22 pmOk, I'm this close to returning my phone and giving up.
help please?
I know some of you guys have razrs, how do you get your photos from your phone to your computer?
Apparently the cables and drivers for the razr do not work with my mac, unless I'm really mistaken/confused?? WTF, so I have to pay 25 cents every time I want to get a picture off my phone onto my computer??
what other camera phones actually friggin work with a mac?? I'm so angry!

Date: 2006-04-19 03:41 am (UTC)Personally I didn’t even want the digi cam just a slim phone. If they I could replace it with an analogue receiver I would have been happy. But I have it.
Well, I hope this helps.

Date: 2006-04-19 04:22 am (UTC)It basically means overwriting the software on your Razr (usually provided by the cell company you're with) with better one. You can even put Linux on a Razr. A friend of mine did that and it works perfectly for him, so I know it can be done. However, I am not sure whether or not it will work with a Mac.
(As much as I love Macs, compatibility with different softwares like that is their big downpoint.)
But go ask around about the flashing.

Date: 2006-04-19 04:41 am (UTC)But the kit I got from motorola is made for PC only. Some stuff on their site says some stuff about macs... but I'm not really sure. :( I'd love it if someone could tell me for sure if there is a way.
If I can't get it to work, I'm going to return my phone and all the crap I bought for it. I might not have much more time before I can return it. :( I bought this phone to be a camera phone. :( If I can't get the pictures off my phone without paying, then I might as well have kept my old phone.

Hehe. Sorry, that's the best I have when it comes to this stuff as I don't have a camera phone. But I do have Windows. ^_~*

Date: 2006-04-19 06:53 pm (UTC)Go to the main menu on your phone, then "Settings."
Select "Connection."
Select "Bluetooth Link."
Go to "Set Up." You can select "Find Me" to make your phone discoverable. I forget what you do from that point, to be honest, but I know the Razr manual explains it.
If Bluetooth is enabled on your Mac, there'll be a little icon in the main Apple menu-bar-thing at the top (like where the date and time and your login name are). It looks like a hieroglyph. Hit the Bluetooth icon and select "Browse Device." See if you can find your phone. You may have to enter a PIN (make one up) on your phone and on the computer. If everything goes well, you should see a new dialogue box with three little folders called "audio," "picture," and "video." At least that's how it worked just now for me when I tried it out.
If you didn't get a Bluetooth module on your G5, the USB dongle-things are pretty reasonably priced.
Good luck!

Date: 2006-04-19 08:34 pm (UTC)what is the USB doggle?
I have a USB cord that connects my mac to my phone, so I can do isync, but I can't figure out how to access the picture folder on the phone, through usb to get the photos off.

Date: 2006-04-19 08:55 pm (UTC)Dongles: You can get these little things that look like thumb drives or software dongles that you plug into a USB port. There's one here for twenty bucks.
I didn't get a cord with mine, so I couldn't tell you how to get at the files. It doesn't just show up on your desktop like any other disk? I'm suprised.
(And don't listen to the haters telling you that Macs are crap. Both platforms are very good for very specific things, and one doesn't necessarily have to be better than the other. It all comes down to personal preference. :P)
