hey guys, I got all inspired this morning, and I think it would be a good thing all around if I posted a drawing a week, or possibly a drawing a day. (or every few days... we'll see how it goes...)

but, in order to make that palatable for me,... I want to try this thing nikita showed me:
http://www.movabletype.org/

apparently they have like... photo upload thingies? you install it on your server and it makes it really easy to upload photos?

I'd really like to have some sort of thing like this where I can update REALLY FAST. preferably without having to bother with html and ftp. and preferably has a pretty interface.

*sigh* wouldn't it be cool if it looked like jello? I'd draw and update all the time! *_*
erm... back to sane land,...
if anyone has used this and would like to spout about it, let me know, or if anyone has another form of "photo bbs" type thing, they'd like to suggest to me let me know.

wargh! XD~

plus I need to get networking working. I think mitch may do that for me when he gets back. but I may try it myself. not sure.

Hey Aimee,

I've heard of movable type, but never used it; it seems to be a blog product, like blogger. So I can't give you any advice on it.

However, lately at work I have been doing a lot of stuff with PHP, which is a programming language that is really good for writing web interfaces. I could probably write you a sort of "auto-updater" so that you could quickly update a picture diary. It would be a webpage, and the most clicking you'd have to do would be browsing to where the pic was on your hard drive and clicking "upload".

It'd be a fun project for me to do. If you want me to, just let me know.

*cries* you are so nice to me!

(geez, I think I need coffee. I'm totally freaky this morning. moo)

Yeah, that would be badass!

basically, what I'd really really like to have, if you think it's possible, is to be able to update a gallery nested within a page on my website (you know, like have my html already set up all pretty like my website currently is)

I'd probably end up redesigning my html on my page to accomodate the new feature.

If your current site uses frames, it would be cake. :) Also, it'd be easiest to do one pic per page -- ie, without thumbnails, although I know that it is possible to dynamically generate images using PHP (it's one of those things I'd just have to learn more about). I was going to say the hardest bit would actually be bumping all the other thumbnails "down" as a new one was added to the front, but then I realized it actually wouldn't be so hard after all. So, um, yeah.

If you decide you do want to use movable type, that's not a problem. Otherwise, just email me or give me a call or something and we can talk about design specs. :)

Apparently, http://caoine.org/about/ uses the very same thing. She's been in the weblog biz since '98 and settled on movabletype. I myself have a host that supports frontpage extensions, so all I have to do is hit "publish" and it's done.(www.tigertech.org) Easy if you don't have a lot of time.

Yay for pictures.

It's very funny because I've been thinking the same thing about Movable Type since I visited http://www.digitalmidnight.net/gallery/

I'll try it over the weekend. If I'm still alive I'll tell you if it was as harder to set up as it looks.

I just set up Movable Type on my webserver... it's not that bad so far, everything works, I just need to make a new template and stuff. Unfortunately I can't make the thumbnail thingy work because my host doesn't have the script for it and it's very strict to not allow people to mess with its setting, anyway... check with your host if it carries the libraries for Image::Magik and if it does it will be a piece of cake.

And the instructions are in English, just imagine some of my difficultes -____-

Moveable type isn't great because the cgi is over-bloated and gunky. There are also some security issues around it since blogger & greymatter got broken into awhile ago. If you want something to update easily, I'd recommend B2 cafelog: http://www.cafelog.com, which uses php pages and a MySQL databse. It really takes loads off your server, and I've switched all my updating thingies to that (for example, I have a sketchblog going on here: http://sketchblog.verunne.net).

Moveable Type.. while I haven't used it myself, I know a couple other artists who have used such blogger-type utility. You could use blogger (http://www.blogger.com) too, but you might not like the available templates.. great thing about all these is you can create whatever template you want :P (you could even make it look like your LJ!) :D

FC uses moveable type

[livejournal.com profile] cyen uses Greymatter (http://noahgrey.com/greysoft/).
http://studiocyen.net/

Noah Grey, creator of greymatter, uses it himself for his photography in a photoblog.

a PHP made one suggested by [livejournal.com profile] maradydd sounds good too :

This is a sort of random question that may or may not make sense...But by any chance are you the Aimee in charge of aimee.wyvernweb.com, a site sporting really imformative animation resources, interviews, tutorials and $tc? I hope you don't mine my adding you to my friends list. I came here following the common interest link for Glen Keane. I know I posted this before...I'm just that curious! Cheers!

Hey aimee, go here http://www.apt604.com . These guys got all inspired by the falcoon person, too. :D

And then after that, a friend of mine ( http://pmayhem.com/edtadem ) and some people HE knows got all inspired by THAT site... and now me him, and a few other artists are working on a similar format, updated daily and such. We're thinking to reserve an artist for each day of the week. Interested?

Need help with networking? hehe... my dad was one of the guys on the team that helped CREATE the IBM Network. So if you have any questions, I'm sure I can ask my dad.
