Doctor Who Meme Day 04 – Your Favorite Doctor IMG HVY

Gee. Bet you couldn't have guessed this one? :P

I actually really liked the 9th Doctor, enough that when the 10th Doctor first showed up, I didn't like him. After a few episodes, though, I quickly changed my mind and at this point, the 10th Doctor is my favorite... and I think he'll probably always be "my Doctor". Funnily enough, I hadn't seen ANY Doctor Who (I had no idea what it was about either) before I saw The Girl in the Fireplace (with the 10th Doctor...) and then after liking that episode, I went back and started over with Series 1 (the 9th Doctor)



So by the time I started "re-watching" the second series a bit with Mitch, I was totally hooked on the 10th Doctor:


It's rare that I do a significant amount of fanart for something... I have to really be taken in by the property. The last time I'd do this much fanart was for Gargoyles back when I was in highschool... that's how much I loved Doctor Who by the time the Tenth Doctor came around.

Really, I had no choice. Tennant's Doctor had a lot of things that I love anyway, it was like they took a poll of what I liked and made a Doctor out of it:
- fabulous suit. YUM. I'm a ridiculous sucker for men in suits.
- specs.
- quite a bit madcap
- very smart, quite a bit geek, actually.
- oh, so charming
- very dark and powerful under the surface
- total zest for life and exploring
- weakness for getting attached to squishy humans

When I first saw 10, I thought he was goofy (in a bad way) and missed the darkness of 9. But once 10 showed us his dark side... I WAS SOLD. Tennant played so many different sides to the Doctor... the zany, friendly, talks a million miles a minute side of the Doctor... the quiet still tragedy of loss... and the power behind his rage... it was just AWESOME. It was like he always knew exactly how far to take it. I love his physical acting, too.

It wasn't just the way that Tennant played 10, though... it was also the stories and companions that surrounded him. It all just really connected with me in a strong way.

In lieu of going into more details about why I love the Tenth Doctor I'm going to post some pics,... both screenshots from the show and artwork I've done.
(this is by no means all the Doctor Who artwork I've done... lol.)

Why? Because they are my fav doctors - the original series and the new series.

Another reason I like the Tennant series is because it has also included my two fav companions - Sarah Jane Smith and Donna Noble. Of course, Sarah Jane was the companion for the 3rd and 4th doctors and has had a couple of spin-offs. But, I'm a big fan of Catherine Tate, so she would always be my fav.

Oops, I read this AFTER the Rose post, but oh well!

I totally agree with how you described Tennant's Dr. Even though 9 will be 'my Dr', I definitely LOVE Tennant (he plays a VERY VERY close second). He's such an amazing actor and just gave the character such life and depth.

And now you have me wanting to do another Dr Who Marathon... (I did one 6 months ago, up to the end of Season 4, not including the specials... though now I've watched them and the 5th season I'm wanting to go back and have a 5 season marathon :D YAY!)

I haven't seen Cassanova yet, but I've watched Secret Smile. *shudders* He is so creepy in that one! Also on the list to watch is Hamlet.

secret smile, I couldnt even watch the whole thing. Very EW. Watch Casanova though, apparently it was kinda the precursor to Tennants Doctor portrayal. It has Petter O'Toole in it, too. :) I saw Hamlet with Tennant's understudy in London and I have the DVD. but I've been so busy I haven't had time to watch it yet. (LAME)
