I'm in a fairy tale mood.
Please show me your favorite fairy tale images and stories. They can be classic ones or obscure ones. (please credit as you can.)

I'm especially interested in ones that involve dolls, roses, selkie or hagoromo.

Jody Lee's paintings for book covers just thrill me. Ever since i was a kid they've inspired me. http://www.jodylee.org/Version2/Gallery/Paintings/WindsOfChange.html there's a story just in the painting.

http://g36.net/ocdesigns/photos/misc/Image.jpg and this person's work. i scanned it from an obscure book for a paper in college. All i remember is that it's an illustration from east of the sun west of the moon.

This is one of my favorite fairy-tale sites: http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/

I also love this: http://www.endicott-studio.com/

And I am a MAD lover of J.W. Waterhouse's paintings -- a wonderful tribute site is here: http://jwwaterhouse.com/

One of my favorite rose images is Charles Rennie Mackintosh's "The Heart of the Rose".

I'll try to come up with more tomorrow, I'm on my way to bed :D

I'm always a huge fan of Louis Icart and Kay Nielsen. :)

This feller has a bunch of photos he took of nude ladies underwater. The lighting and poses are really beautiful: http://www.flickr.com/photos/alberich/299882689/

This is one of my favorite fairy-tales, "Belle-Belle." Well, second-favorite after "Beauty and the Beast," but everyone knows that one. ^^; (http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/authors/aulnoy/1892/bellebelle.html) (href)

Total crack-ville for Fairy Tale lovers. I lean towards an Art Deco look. It all has to do with the fairy tales I was read as a child - the Volland Children's Stories and the World of Fairy Tales book I had as a child and still have.

Not fairy tales in the classic sense but I love the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker.

I suppose that I should be a better help. I love fairy tales, and folk tales, and mythology. The one that has stuck with me is "The Little Mermaid" and illustrated by John Speirs, followed by "Snow-White and Rose-Red", Hansel and Gretel, and "The Crystal Ball" all illustrated by Mary Dinsdale. All of these stories, and a lot more, are in my favorite fairy tale book - "My World of Fairy Tales".

Another book with great illustrations is "The Classic Volland Edition Great Children's Stories". "The Little Red Hen", "The Three Bears", "Three Billy Goats Gruff" and more formed me when I was very young. All the illustrations are by Frederick Richardson.

it's not really fairy tale, but it's a cute story anyway. The book itself is cheap if you can find it, and it's all watercolour art, which really really really really REALLY endears me to it incredibly.

Also, some of my favorite books:

The Princess Bride, William Goldman
Beauty, Robin McKinley
Snow White, Blood Red (collection)
Black Thorn, White Rose (collection)
Rose Daughter, Robin McKinley
Spindle's End, Robin McKinley
Deerskin, Robin McKinley
Once Upon a Winter's Night, Dennis McKiernan
Daughter of the Forest, Juliet Marillier
Dear Mili, Wilhelm Grimm & Maurice Sendak

And now I'm going to go home and re-read them all since these are all direct suggestions from my bookshelves. :)

I recently just rewatched "The Storyteller" on Netflix, as I am a giant sucker for all things Jim Henson. I loved the very different versions of more popular fairy tales, the 80's-tacular special effects, and seeing a couple familiar faces every so often.

I'm curious to find out more about Hagoromo, though... I love Noh theatre and their stories.
