that's what I think, truly, most people would end up doing.
But quite frequently in the fairy tales, the beast is shown as this creature who LOOKS scary, and often has a hard time using utensils... but is gentle and wears fancy clothes. So then the underlying metaphor is a bit strange, because it's kinda supposed to be "love turns a scary-man into a creature that a young girl could love." You know, like that girls are kinda scared of guys for a while, but then they grow up and the beast becomes a man that they love. that sort of thing. but if the beast is all refined, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the metaphor?
besides... character-wise alone... I tend to think if he's been there a long time, he'd be like "man, this sucks, screw this" and let his clothes get all screwed up and run around in the forest.
