Day 14 December Advent Arts!
~ ~ FAVE ON DA

Prince Naveen and Tiana from Disney's The Princess and the Frog. (Lindy Hop anyone?) (BTW, Tiana's knees are up since she's hoping, reducing her skirt size.)

Drawn in pencil, the background silhouette in sharpie. Colored in Photoshop. I'd like to have colored the linework, but I just couldn't find an efficient way to do it. And I be tired.

Oh, super-cute. I love how painterly the background is. And I'm also loving the fact that you've even got the pleats in Naveen's trousers. :D

I LOVES IT! <3 I can't wait to see the film. When I saw the visdev stuff of the backgrounds, my mind was made up.

Also, you can use a layer mask with the original linework to color them in. It works kind of like frisket but in photoshop.
http://www.high5art.com/linework_tute.htm Hope that helps, and that I'm not being redundant in telling you something already know :(

Yay, I'm glad I could help. There are a couple variant methods to it. I find it's better to have either inked the lines before scanning or to line it in PS (or Sai) a head of time. It makes for a more clear area for Select > Color Range > Eye Dropper to pick out the black. Also, after I just go to Select > Inverse and delete everything but the black on that layer, instead of what was in that tutorial. You know, whatever gets the job done!

Anyway, I'm enjoying your December drawings! Keep it up! :D

I typically draw in pencil (and did this piece ) and then I up the contrast in photoshop and then set the lineart layer to multiply. I either then color with COPICS and combine in photoshop, or color underneath the lineart layer (like in this case)

... so my main concern was loosing the greys, which is what frustrates me about it... but I guess if I scan high enough DPI and then set to max contrast (and delete the white), then that would be ok.
