video games and holes

So... Assassins Creed II looks pretty epic, and it's set in Florence. Mitch, ever the moral compass, is concerned about a game that is about killing people. But my motivation was that it's "historical killing people". Is there any reason I shouldn't get this game to test out the PS3? (our ONE blueray disc right now is IRON MAN (which I must say is pretty pretty), soon to be joined by STAR TREK. <3)

My other thought was to get the Batman Arkam Asylum game, similarly highly rated and you get to be Batman. I'm kind of a HUGE Batman fan. (Also, Batman only puts people "to sleep" instead of killing, so Mitch will like that. lol. Mitch is always a Paladin or a Healer... I'm always a mage or something with a big sword.) Seems like games are advanced enough now so that you can actually feel like you're in an environment, not like it was 10 years ago, you know? (so a good time for a Batman or assassin game...)

A lot of you said I should get Little Big Planet... but my main concern with that is that I don't really have a lot of time to BUILD things. It sounds fun, but if it takes a really long time to make a level or customize things, then I just know I'm not really going to have time for that. (I would have loved it when I was in highschool. I spent some rather ridiculous number of hours on Mario Paint...)

But now, when I play video games, I typically want something with fun, simple gameplay,... or something where I can blow stuff up (or stab things) in a spectacular manner.

On the front yard front, Mitch accidentally split one of the irrigation pipes even though I was being pretty careful trying to find them before we dug! :( Looks like they can come fix it tomorrow and I turned the irrigation system off,... yeesh!
So,... the two Madame Alfred Carriere climbing roses are planted, and The Prince (English shrub) is planted... but I still have some slightly upset Wildeve roses and one Felicia Hybrid Musk that need to be planted... but we're afraid to dig another hole without figuring out where the pipes are. stymied. :(

ah well, nyak nyak nyak.

YAY! Glad to hear it. :D

The spot doesnt get a TON of sun, and some folks had recommended hybrid musks for that type of location. Hopefully the roses will survive until we can fix the pipe and dig 3 more holes.

OH... by the way, the nursery lady just said I should plant with the special soil and not really fertilize or put a bunch of other stuff in there. But the old rose places I bought from were saying use superphosphate, lime, alfalfa, gypsu, compost, peat moss, etc...
she was saying because we have a lot of clay in our soil that I didn't need to do all that. :\ She seemed pretty knowledgeable and she knows more about gardening in this are than I do, that's for sure!

Assassin's Creed 2 looks awesome! If it's anything like the first one, the graphics will be soooooo good! You don't actually "kill" people per se; if it's anything like the first game it takes place in a HoloDeck, basically.

Little Big Planet is very fun and very simple (basic controls are running, grabbing and jumping) and you don't have to build things. You can play thru the game made levels and you can play thru levels people make on the Playstation Network.

There's a lot to Little Big Planet and creating worlds is just a part of it. We just bought it a few weeks ago and you can just play the different levels and that in itself is pretty fun. We haven't gotten pretty far but I think it's one of those games you can play whenever you want and don't have to put a whole lot of time unless you want to. We've been playing it intermittently as we also have Infamous and now Arkham Asylum, which are both great games.

Although Batman doesn't kill anyone... some people do die since we're dealing with some nasty villains. And it's a pretty dark game - just to warn you (You're right the environment is great but because it's dark, it can be really creepy.) Anyway, the story, graphics, dialogue, voice acting, etc are just so awesome. As a huge Batman fan this game really made me happy.

I have heard some good things about Assassin's Creed II and I hope it's better than the previous one... The game: Uncharted 2 is also supposed to be really great. It might actually be 1 up over Arkham Asylum....

You would probably like the Katamari Damacy series as well. It is plenty simple, a bit trippy, and has addictive music. Also try getting Disgaea 3. The whole Disgaea series kicks ass very much, but all the previous ones were on PS2 and PSP. Disgaea has a great sense of humor and great voice acting and can be played forever if you really love to powerlevel characters or want to see all the trillion endings. Just do a search for both games on Youtube. You will find enough to get an idea what the two games are like.

I own the PS.. uhhhh... I want to say PS2 version of Katamari? (We love Katamari)

and I love Disgaea. I haven't had time to play 2 or 3 though. :)

I have actually grown to like the Disgaea 2 story better then the first. You still get plenty of great Etna moments and Laharl does show up for a battle. Disgaea 3 doesn't have any of the old characters in it though you can download them and plenty more on PSNetwork.

Katamari for PS3 has the final level taking you from small objects to the cosmos in one swoop. Is nuts. Can't really go further then that I suppose. But the game is as fun as ever.

You might enjoy the Ghostbusters game. One, you don't have to worry about killing anybody (this was a big deal for Dan Ackroyd) and it really IS a good story that features all of the actors. It captures the spirit of the first movie.

You may want to try the Overlord games. They're a ton of fun and quite silly. There is killing but it's more goofy than violent. There is a ton of humor (I almost peed myself when I met the elves in Overlord II), it's gorgeous, and easy to just play in short bursts. There's a free demo on Steam for PC, but the games are also available on xbox and ps3.

If you want fun, simple gameplay then LittleBig Planet is your game. You can go through the whole game without building a thing, the build-a-level section is just some additional gameplay.

Arkham Asylum is amazing, and really fun. If you like Batman then it's the game for you.

I just saw the commercial to Assassins Creed II, it looks gorgeous! I will get a PS3 when Final Fantasy 13 comes out... I always end up giving in to that series when it comes to consoles. That's cute your husband feels that way about video games. That's something my husband and I will have to really think about when we have children, if they are interested in playing video games.

A few friends of mine own Batman Arkam Asylum and they love it. To be honest, I really want to play the Ghost Busters game on either the Wii or PS3 *lol* I have it for the PS2 and it's just not that great.

I didn't much like the killing in the first Assassin's Creed. The main character is basically a jerk, and kills all his informants with some kind of snarky one-liner. The game takes over and makes you kill them, basically, which really detracts from the free-ranging feel of the rest. Plus the sci-fi subplot was tedious and unnecessary. But, I'm hoping they've learned from the first one and made improvements to the sequel. Uncharted 2 has gotten rave reviews from everybody, so if you want a pretty, fun game (and not just a pretty game) that might be a safer bet.

Random roseness: Oh man, I reverse my opinion of one of my bushes -- if you need a white Austin, I've been totally blown away by Winchester Cathedral's blooming through this season. It's halfway into November and he's STILL GOING AT IT! (Queen of Sweden quit ages and ages ago.) Still not a huge fan of the old rose scent, but eeeeeeee, so many gorgeous white petals. Need to do some cruel-to-be-kind pruning soon, but I really don't think the season here is properly done yet!

I recommend videogames in the music category. I got rock band 2 and Beatles Rock Band, because I love the Beatles. Victoria came over last week, and we ended up playing for hours! Each of us was playing an instrument and singing vocals at the same time. I like that it's a cooperative game, and lots of fun at parties. Plus, there is very little killing involved.

The drawback is you have to find a place to store the drum set. I keep mine in a special little spot I call "the middle of the floor," but that might not work for everyone.

My husband and I played Assassins Creed a while back; it was fun (well, for me anyway) but it got kind of redundant after a bit. I've always been the kind of gamer that likes to do all the optional stuff before tackling the main story, whereas Kirby is like the total opposite.

I also played the Batman game and that was pretty fun. I was really happy that they brought back the same people to do the voices as in the cartoon :D

What kind of games are you into? Oftentimes we like to find co-op and/or multiplayer games for the two of us. I'm not super picky and I'm down to try anything once but with the friends I have we tend to play a lot of fps games together.

One game that I liked in particular in the Playstation Network that was mindless but fun was Super Stardust HD. I think it was less than ten bucks; it's like a flashy Robotron clone (aka Geometry Wars) but set on a 3D sphere rather than flat 2D space. Critter Crunch is also a quick download and it's got a cute style.

I loved Batman AA. it was great and the graphics were really good. I would definitely recommend a buy on that one.

I don't know but you might like Valkiyria Chronicles. That game is really good as well. RPG with RTS elements and all that.

The Ratchet and Clank games are always awesome as well.

I'm having a blast with Dragon Age: Origins. It's a spiritual (and from the same company as) sucessor to Baldur's Gate. And it's very D&D inspired, but you don't have to have a DM's guide to understand abilities and armor and things.

And you can play as evil or as good as you like to~!

Assassin's Creed II does indeed look awesome. We own Batman Arkham Asylum and it's AMAZING!! You get to fight and do things like Batman would and the voice cast is from the Batman Animated Series. Yes that's right! Mark Hamill is the Joker. RESPECT!!

I realise I am WAY late on this but seriously, Batman is great fun. It wasn't until I started playing that I realised someone I was at Uni with apparently animated on it. Her name was in the opening credits! Very surreal.
