I miss you Mister Donut

I miss mister donut in Japan.
matcha cake donuts with choco frosting... frankie pies...

Last time I went (Spring 08 with my husband) the sakura were blooming down the street and we'd go to Mister Donut almost every morning before hopping on the subway to start our day.

Going to New People this weekend really reminded me of going shopping in Tokyo. It made me feel all nostalgic! I don't know when I'll have the time or money to go back to Tokyo, again... and I'm super grateful to live in California where I have access to so much stuff...
but Mister Donut, can you feel my love from across the ocean?

The next time I go back to Japan I swear I am bringing a HUGE box (if not two) back to the states. It's just so yummy... and I have a habit of going back to their website to see what new crazy seasonal flavors they have.

According to Wikipedia, Mister Donut (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mister_Donut) started out in the US in the fifties, and Dunkin' Donuts bought them out in 1990! Apparently there are still locations that use the same recipes as the original stores, although they are now called "Donut Connection" and are mainly on the east coast. Still no Mister Donut love for California... T_T

So that adorable doughnut-lion thing that appears briefly in Japan Ai is actually one of their mascots?! Cutest mascot EVAR! XD

Haha, my husband and I used to go to it as well almost every day! We filled up our point card and got an ice bag with an elephant on it and cellphone charm. XD

Oh that's weird - growing up in PA we had Mister Donuts...been years since the last time I remember seeing one (mostly Dunkin Donuts now) & I don't even live in the US anymore, anyway...but DAMN they were delish. Posibly the same franchise as the color scheme & logo are the same as I remember.
