ComicCon POST OF DOOM, PART 2, SAT - SUN
Jul. 30th, 2009 08:45 am
SATURDAY:::::
Today I dressed up like Kaylee from Firefly. I forgot to get AJ to draw the chinese characters on my overalls, but other than that it was a fun costume! Very comfy. Which is what Saturday needs to be.
and actually... at one point during the day, this nice woman asked me for directions while I was at my booth. Well, I stood up and tried to show her my SDCC map to help her out... and she realized I was cosplaying Kaylee. "Hey, you're that's a Kaylee costume!" "Yup! I love Firefly!" "Wow, I was the writer on the Shindig episode! How cool! Anyway, thanks for the map!"
(she was Jane Espenson! She worked on Buffy and Caprica, too!)

I went over to the BBC booth first thing to try to get a Doctor Who bag for AJ and Judy, but instead of handing out bags, they were handing out tickets for the Russell T Davies signing. (RTD is the Head Writer and Executive Producer of Doctor Who since it returned to the BBC in 2005... he's basically the main reason that Doctor Who got revived)... I couldn't turn that down!
sooooo I waited around. The line was near the "Feed your fear" booth. If you know me well at all, you know I'm really scared of gross horror movies. So this was kinda a crappy place for me to have to wait in line. (I have a really overactive imagination at times and get nightmares easily). However, it was amusing to see Wonder Woman getting her fear on.

RTD,... He's just as adorable as he is in the commentaries. What a lovely man.
I got a quick ninja picture with him.

This is the print I bought from Barrowman (and got signed) last year. I figured it was perfect to get signed from RTD, too, since it was both Doctor Who and Torchwood (his two shows). Now if only I could get Tennant to sign it!
I usually don't really care about getting signatures... but... man, I just really love Doctor Who, what can I say.

And here's AJ and Marcus in their Battlestar Galactica.
(Mitch and I are still getting caught up with that.. we're to the "Water" episode...)

We love John Barrowman THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS Much.

Later in the day some Futurama cosplayers stopped by our booth (since we all worked/work on it) We got a pic with them. :D

I do apologize,... due to the lack of sleep from a couple days, Sat afternoon and evening, I was just EXHAUSTED. I tried to be "yay", but I almost fell asleep at my booth, so ... yeah... haha....
Please forgive me.
------------
The next day (SUNDAY) Mitch and I got up super early and got into our Doctor Who costumes. I was doing my Rose Tyler Series 2 Doomsday variant (so happy to find this jacket!) I'll do a super angsty shoot with it later. Ha ha.
Mitch has a new outer coat. :) He had a lot of fun walking around with the coat foofing behind him.

RE: The Doctor Who panel,... I'm not going to bother trying to transcribe what they said... but if you scroll down a bit you can see some pretty detailed accounts. :)
One thing that struck me though is that it seems like the folks making Doctor Who aren't really aware of how popular they are in the USA. RTD said that he was having the time of his life, which is so touching. They really wanted to make a great Doctor Who and bring it back... and they did, and now it's HUGE in UK and then they come to SDCC to a room of thousands of squealing USA fans, too. It must feel great. Rock, on, Doctor Who.

RTD's squee face is so cute.

"The great thing about Doctor Who is that it keeps GOING ON!"
(implying that it keeps remaking itself, and that after Tennant leaves, we'll get a new great Doctor Who)

Thanking the fans for supporting Doctor Who and helping make it more popular in the US

... and well, I suppose I should say it... Tennant is my Doctor. His combination of geekiness, physical acting, manic and angst is just so much what I like. I'm very sad to see him go, even though I'm excited to see what comes next with Moffat and Smith... and I'm excited to see what Tennant does next. I'm really grateful that RTD, Julie and Tennant were able to come out to SDCC this year, right before we're going to see their last episodes. They're all moving on to different projects now, and who knows when we'll see them again, eh? I'm glad the fans were able to make them feel loved for the show they gave us.
Like a BIG SAP, I'm going to repost the image I drew a couple months ago. Bye, Doctor! You were BRILLIANT!

After Doctor Who, I had to go back to the booth to man it for a bit, and really... well... I'd really sold out of most of my stuff on Friday, so I packed up a bit early and headed out.
Again, those of you who bought my stuff, came by to say hi, or hung out with me, etc... THANKYOU. I had a really great time.
If you caught me when I was tired, I apologize. Inherently I'm kinda a shy person, (even though it doesn't seem like it sometimes. ha ha...) so talking to people nonstop for 5 days is a little difficult for me. Most of the time I'm fine, but I get tired sometimes. :) It's totally worth it though cuase ya'll are awesome.
SDCC, I love you. I'll be back next year with bells on.
