with twitter... I tried it once before and got scared of the stalker-ish-ness of it... but I'm going to give it another shot because everyone says I'm supposed to. Tell me what's up, flist? If someone "follows" you, is it rude not to "follow" them back? Or am I going to get a million updates about people's cereal if I add everyone back? haha... &___&
(please don't be offended if I don't add you back... I'm worried about SN overload... I'm basically really worried about THIS. so bear with me.)

The facebook one is easy, I'll be using that page only for "OFFICIAL BISNES" :)

Livejournal is still my blog/socialnetworker of choice because I can choose in HTML how things look, I can have long posts, I can filter and add images, etc. But a lot of people don't use LJ, I guess? (I hate Myspace...)

I'm pretty sure tweets follows are just like LJ - if u don't care what they do every second of the day, don't follow. You'll live a saner life

No, it's not rude to not follow people on twitter. A few people might get butt-hurt, but they do that here on LJ, too.

...I should see if I remember my twitter log in.

From what I've noticed with twitter that all sorts of random bots/people seem to follow you. So far, I just ignore all of them and only follow my friends, I figure I'm not writing anything interesting anyway. xD

On twitter you can set your account to be "locked" so your tweets are private and also make it so you have to approve people before they can follow you.

I make sure I have something in common with people before I "approve" them to follow me. Spam is annoying.

Twitter for me is just IMing my friends and letting them know what I'm up to. I try not to be boring...

Yea, with twitter it's sort of up to your discretion. There are people who like to add EVERYONE and make lots of friends, but for the most part people just add whomever they actually want to read about. I made my twitter private, which I like because that way you choose who can see your updates and you don't get followed by a lot of bots and weird people you don't know.

Yeah, totally don't add everyone back on Twitter. 90% of the people will just be spambots anyway. That aside Twitter can be pretty fun. You can also make a "personal" account locked only for friends.

I hate twitter. When my LJ started filling up with random nonsense I disabled Twitter.

That's my big gripe about Twitter. I get bombarded with people updating about themselves cooking, then going outside..then whatever. It is nice to have though, I just use it to talk to my friend when I'm at work through my cell phone :) So yeah, I don't feel rude not following people. <3 I love LJ, it's the best blog.

I certainly don't follow everyone that follows me back. I mostly follow people I find interesting, other artists and in some cases game developers and/or game accounts.
As for stalker-ish-ness... I guess you could sum up half the internet as stalkerish, really. But then again, you get to talk to awesome people you'd otherwise never get to talk to (like me answering here =O )!

I ended up signing up for Twitter due to work but in the first hour 2 people selling porn sites friended me. So not using it much just using it to monitor the office's account.

I had facebook for awhile but the new phone had me revisit it and I found a lot of relatives online.

I probably wouldn't have minded it, if folk hadn't linked their livejournal accounts to twitter. Then I had no choice if I were following or not.

I only follow people I think are interesting. If they're not interesting, I don't follow them back. If they're obviously just adding me in the hope that I'll add them back to plump up their numbers or so they can market to me, I block them. :P I'd say even more than LJ, though, if someone has any degree of fame or is published, it's to be expected that they won't follow everyone back (I think people only get cranky if they don't follow ANYONE). Of course there are random whiny people, but screw 'em. :D

And I keep in mind that it's a stream that flows much faster than LJand I can't read everything. Fortunately, less stuff that I care about is posted.

I only pay attention to two Twitters and both of them are for fictional characters. I can see where stuff like "Hey I really like this shop on the corner of 5th and Main" or "I'm at home, if you need me call me there" or "My car broke down and the only telephone I can find is in a dive bar; if no one hears from me by morning call the cops" can be fun and useful, but I hear tale of folks who post things like "I'm walking to the edge of my garden!" and "I'm walking back to my front door!" and "I'm rotating the knob on my door 75 degrees clockwise!"... that I don't really need.

Of the two, I think I'd prefer LJ, but I've never had the opportunity to really unleash the power of Twitter on a mobile scale.

You should get "Tweet Deck"

you can make groups so you'll have a panel with all your friends, but then you can have groups where it separates incoming tweets. (for instance, you can have a group for artists, a group for real friends...etc etc)

it also has a panel for direct messages, people who mention you in their tweets, and you can update twitter AND FB status from the deck.

it's really quite handy.

Still a Twitter newbie but a big fan and I think it's a great way to share random thoughts & events as it's happening or just after it happened. I'm sure you're going to have a ton of followers and I hope that something you remember is that it's YOUR Twitter and you can choose what you want to tweet about. Don't ever feel like it has to be something "interesting" or important to others. If it's how you're going out to exercise or how your day sucks it's your choice because it's like your mini-livejournal. There are celebrities I follow who tweet a LOT throughout the day (Wil Wheaton for example) and it's great because he said himself if you can't handle all the random tweets he makes don't follow him. He doesn't want to cater to other people. And I think some people forget that.

Also in regards to who you follow, do be careful about spambots. The people I follow I either know or like (celebrities). Some of them are not super interesting and some are. But in general, I follow people to distract me from my day (get a "day-in-the-life-of" moment of someone else) and to communicate with friends. I locked my updates because I don't want some of my rants hitting me in the face later (and good thing cause my boss' wife tried to watch me on twitter! that would have been bad). I do wish Twitter had an option like LJ where you can choose to post things as public or private as opposed to your entire account being public or private.

I hope you don't mind if I follow you on twitter. I'll be TerraForever. You really don't need to follow me back. Like I said, I post about my day, my thoughts, my rants etc. It'd probably bore you to do death if it didn't annoy you first =P

Sorry for hte long comment! (can you tell I'm obsessed with Twitter?) =P

Random people will follow you on Twitter but you don't have to follow them. I've had some bots but I just ignore them or block them if they get weird.

Same user name on twitter, just added you :).

I have my tweets locked too, mostly because I don't want complaints about work getting back to my boss ^^;. Now no bots or random people add me anymore, and I definitely prefer it that way.

Locking your twitter account defeats the purpose of twitter though, which is to help market yourself as a product. you want millions of new people to buy your product, not just the ones that know you.

People follow you, then when you update that you posted a blog, a comic, whatever, all those people will click that link and read that blog/comic.
