Today was pretty awesome, I'm in the BEST MOOD!

I met Ali, TrueMee and Michelle in the fabric district this morning. Ali helped me find some metallic spandex for my Vampire Hunter D costume, and just in general we looked at sparkly things.

I picked out some chirimen for my Takuya Angel-esque corset. Isn't it great? SO VIBRANT. (a full $5 cheaper per yard than online, btw. for the exact same fabric)

Check out the super tacky Kenshin fabric we found. I think someone needs to make a sexy dress out of this.

Ali wanted to go to Yamazaki, which is always a good idea. Best thing, though, was that they had egg salad sandwiches. I only like egg salad sandwiches from Japanese delis usually... cause american ones always have pimento or too much onions or something. I pretty much just want the egg and mayo. lol. So I was super happy. (btw,... Senka cafe underneath the LA Curry House makes egg salad sandwiches with CUCUMBER slices in it. WOW. SO YUM) I need to learn how to make it. O_O ALSO CREAM PUFFS. mmmmm

I also got this piggy stationary.
It IS a fine day, piggy. Everyday feel so good!

Then I had to get into kimono for the art opening at Kyoto Grand. (Daifu Wada: Buddha's Smile)

I wore this ro galaxy kimono, this leafy ro nagoya obi, this flower obidome, teal ro obiage and obijime and my july maiko uchiwa kanzashi. (all items are summer kimono made out of open weave fabric... you only wear them at the height of mid-summer.)

I wanted to go with a feeling of willows blowing in the night breeze... since it's so HOT TODAY. UGH. 100 degrees even at 5 pm.

here's me at the opening with some members of the LA Kimono club (my teacher is in the beige kimono with the bright lime green obi).
I enjoyed the artwork on display, they were some sort of art print...? But they'd been specially embellished with sparkles and gold. It reminded me of Amano's stuff.
It was really nice to see my teacher... I've been too busy lately!

... so in that group pic above, the adorable woman in the taupe kimono right below me? She is the wife of the artist. I spoke to her for a little while and explained why I like kimono, etc...
and then she gave me this fan! Wow! It's so pretty! How nice!

the sunset while driving home. Gorgeous day.

waa jealous! I love how they put all you tall gaijin in the back.

I agree with you about the egg salad sandwiches. When I make mine at home I use egg, mayo, and celery and I'm pretty happy with it.

yeah, the kimono's themselves will be a little harder to fit you in because I buy abnormally long ones, but that's what folding is for. ^_^ Obi, of course, no issue.

the club is very friendly, too and they like seeing people interested in kimono.

It looks like an awesome day -- and now I'm craving egg salad sandwiches!

I couldn't look at the link to the Kimono club though..? Getting a weird 'site attack' error -- not sure if it's just on my end or..?

I've actually seen clothes made out of that fabric.
At a little random boutique store down in Redondo Beach, of all places.

I love love the bright chirimen! I wanna see that corset.

haha, I need to see these clothes. :)

yeah... I'm a bit scared since I haven't done an underbust corset before, but hopefully I can just cut off the top of my victorian pattern and it should work. *crosses fingers*

I really love the contrast of the teal obiage/obijime against the "simpler" colors of the obi and kimono. It's very striking. Totally jealous of your ability to find, put together and wear kimono like that.

Also, those cream puffs are making me REALLY nostalgic (not to mention hungry).

And: that Kenshin fabric makes me sporfle... and yet I'm almost wishing I had some. Don't know what I'd make out of it (except as some applique perhaps) but despite it's cheese-factor, it's kinda awesome.

dude is that CLARK KENT? <3

Thankyou! ... when I first started I had a really hard time coordinating colors and patterns. It's like it took a while for my brain to get the hang of it... but now I feel like learning more about constrasting colors in kimono has made me more aware of color theory in everything! It's very interesting!

it's very hard for me to find kimono, as I'm sure you can guess... for most people it's not that hard. It took me a long time to get the stuff I have now... but now I feel like I have a pretty good cross-section, so for most seasons and events I have stuff I can mix and match and have fun with. :)

yeah actually, while the kenshin fabric is a bit horrific, it would make a pretty EPIC sexy dress for an anime con. lol. it was stretchy!

Kenshin fabric? Wow, I'm surprised such a thing exists! o_o

The Japanese prints are lovely though. :-) I was actually out looking for some myself on Friday since I thought it would be cute for a sundress!

First of all, your kimonos are always so beautiful. How long have you been doing it?

Secondly, that Kenshin fabric rocks! I can already see a great out fit made with some of that. Do you remember the name of the store it was in?

I started seriously learning about kitsuke in 2006, so about 3 years.

The kenshin fabric was in two colorways andn was outside on the walk near Kasshcool fabrics.

Yamazaki Bread & Cake! :D I love that place sooooooo much! XD I agree that their egg salad is good. Their potato sandwich is one of my favorite foods in the world. ^_^

Your star-print kimono is really cool! I guess I always assumed that all kimono patterns were florals or something. XP
