Gothic and Lolita Bible English release party at Kinokuniya in Little Tokyo, LA this weekend (saturday the 23rd at 1 pm till whenever).
I'll be there and wearing this Black and White BABY, the Stars Shine Bright dress.
aaah! This dress is so adorable. I just got it in the mail today. I love the scallops and I lovelovelovelove the fact that it's long enough for me both in torso and in skirt. I've been frustrated for years with how short most lolita dresses look on me.
V is for VICTORY!

bad-fuzzy photo of the lunar eclipse! Did you watch? :)

KATSUCON ---
I saw lots of fun! If I missed you, I'm sorry! Hopefully I will catch you another time. :)
I have to admit, I was never really THAT cold, and I was kinda dissappointed that there was no EPIC SNOW or EPIC photoshoots. Instead there was cuddling and goofing off and awesome, which is just as good.

So on Friday I checked in to Katsucon with Elizabeth (fatwetdog) and wore my pokadot Metamorphose skirt, my AP necklace and my Lady and the Tramp t-shirt. I helped out at the Cosworx booth with Char and Callie and her other lovely ladies.

(A better photo of cosworx hawtboothbabe-ness thanks to Lionel)

I saw lots of super cute lolitas.
misadesu (with the equally adorable thislonlyflower) took this shot of me. (thanks misadesu! XD) haha. actually I think it's the only shot I have of the outfit! It's intentionally super valentine's obnoxious.

Minuberry came by in her awesome Code Geass costume. So I had to fangirl her. LUUUUV
Then she let me borrow her laptop for my Japan Ai panel! LULU IS MY HERO!

(I am wearing cute catears because I am working cosworx booth, btw.)
Sadly my panel was the same time as the Lolita panel, so I had to miss that.

While I was waiting in line to get my badge, I spoke to this older couple at length about their favorite anime series (all the same ones I liked) and how they enjoyed cons, etc... it was very random, they just started chatting me up. it kind-of reset my attitude in a really positive way. I actually ended up having a really nice time after that and I really appreciated the con. Sometimes you just have to remember why you like things and why you started doing this anyway, you know?

There were lots of cosplayers and attendees who were really having a great time and making a lot of effort. Seriously some badass costumes and lots of cool oldschool ones. Case in point, the best Ursula from the Little Mermaid! ... and Sexy Yuuko is sexy (photos thanks to Lionel!) Jason's got some more photos of katsucon-ness here! and the masquerade was really awesome! :) If you want to see video of some of them check out ACP, which is also awesome. I wish more cons on the west coast allowed you to encorporate video into your skits.
I could do without the underaged kids trying to score booze and the underaged girls showing off their under-boob though. I guess I am an old-lady now.

Later that night Char, Liz and I went out. They RULE and are my superhawt girlfriends. Later we moved on to a quiet little bar and sat and talked till late late. also awesome. Speaking of awesome Liz,.... look at her new Jem costume. It seriously slays me.

Saturday morning I got dressed up as the Medicine Seller from Mononoke and Liz got dressed up as Empress Elizabeth from Takarazuka. Little girls kept coming up to her and squealing. She looked like a fairy princess. It was awesome. :D Also a couple people actually knew who I was and wanted to hug the Medicine Seller! haha SO CUTE!!
Also saw a fabulous Madame de Pompadour and some My Little Ponies.

can you spot the cosplayers? :D

Sunday I dressed up like Ayame from Fruits Basket and helped out at Cosworx again. Random kids called me Ayu and hugged me, which was friggin adorable.

Had dinner with Char after the dealer's room closed and then went home with Andi!. Andi and her daughter are just as wonderful and awesome as advertised and we found out we had a lot more things in common (like ladies who transform into big mean cats! as well as more mundane mutual art interests)! It was fun getting to see Andi's dolls in person, finally, too. She has such lovely ones. I may have to save my pennies and get a Pukipuki eventually thanks to her! haha! for now I am super broke though! XD Also her cats Gozer and Zool (yes, from Ghostbusters) are so cute (and crazy. XD)

Monday we went to Georgetown (the first time I'd been in Maryland, really) and had some yummy seafood. The weather was GORGEOUS. Lovely breeze and super blue sky.

We moved on to D.C. to see some museums since I hadn't been since like highschool. I only wish I had more days! Plus none of us were totally 100% capacity. This has been a hard few months for me so I'm pretty tired. Plus Andi was fighting SARS. I'll have to go back another time and spend more time looking around D.C. (maybe I can go to cherry blossom festival in 09 or something? who knows!)

before we went into the museum I spotted a parrot! It turns out he was clipped and the guy sitting on the bench next to him was his owner. He seemed very happy being outside on such a gorgeous day.

inside the museums we saw a lot of indian, Japanese and Chinese artwork. It was all stunning. My favorite part was the Edo-period scrolls and screens from the Etsuko and Joe Price Collection. You can see more photos of some of them at the Shin'enKan website. I wish I could show you more photos, but no photos were allowed inside. Apparently part of the collection is in LA somewhere, so I'll have to check that out later!
There was this one screen of some brush birds in marshgrasses that just took my breath away. I don't have a picture of it, but it was at least 5 panels long. It was painted over gold, and different areas of the painting reflected the gold differently, and differently again based on the light. The musueum was smart enough to have the lights gradually dim and lighten as you watched the artworks so that you could see how the light effected their beauty. No photo could ever capture it. It was ethereal. I'm so grateful to have seen these.

at lower light, the fog around the brushes and birds was more obviously a more matte reflection of gold than the brighter waters below them. But when the light came up again, the fog and waters almost looked the same tone. It was really interesting. It was almost like old theatrical backdrops, made to change subtly in the light.
And the little-sparrow-like birds were so beautiful and simply rendered. Each stroke was important and beautiful. The entire thing glowed like something from a dream.

Another favorite was 100 views of otome (if I remember the name right.) You know the OTOME mask used in NOH, right...? well this was her doing all kinds of fun activitis with clones of herself. In each one she was so exhuberant... You could not help but be happy looking at her plump face dancing or playing GO with herself.

We also went to the Sackler museum for the Whistler Peacock Room. Which was totally amazing. Can you spot the Andi in the dark? :D (she looked so cute I had to take a picture... but in the picture, it looks evil! haha... oh well... you will have to trust me that she looked adorable)

After that it started raining though and we had to run back to the car in the cold rain. Which was both horrible and hilarious at the same time.
(the white house is that blurry white thing behind the trees!)

We sat around and had warm tea and watched The Tick. Then I had to go home!

OMG YAY FABULOUS PICTURES!!!!

I think the screen that you're talking about is Rice and Barley, if it's the one we were enjoying so much at the exhibition (with the fog in a slightly more matte tone than the water)?

*psst* We didn't actually make it to Baltimore, that was Georgetown! ^_^

I had SO MUCH FUN with you, and we should definitely do the cherry-blossom festival together next year, if you're up for it!

*bounce*

I was so excited to see your book. I'm 6 feet too and I lived in Japan for 2 years in a country town (I believe that makes it all the harder to find clothes) where I was a natural oddity often stared at. I loved Harajuku becuase I was the normal one!!!
