-- HELP with computer movie files (like AVI) and HDTV -
My friends have an HDTV, and I was wondering since the next episode of one of my favorite foreign tv shows is going to be in HD.... and I kinda wanted to have an episode watching party.... I'm wondering if there's some way to get my computer files from computer to their HDTV? Any suggestions? there's got to be a relatively easy way for us to do this.

(disclaimer: I download tv shows after they air in foreign countries. However, when it comes out on DVD stateside, I buy it, like a good little monkey fan.)

so, as we all know, Edna Mode is awesome. I totally want to be Edna Mode when I grow up. Most people think that Edna was at least partially based on the famous designer, Edith Head. I've been intrigued for a while with some of the classic designers like Edith Head and Coco Channel... so I thought maybe it was time I actually learned something about them. (Did you know that Edith Head did the gowns for Holiday Inn, one of my favorite Bing Crosby/Fred Astaire movies?... the same one that that "firecracker" Fred dance is from! She also did a bunch of Hitchcock's films.)
so I picked up "The Dress Doctor" by Edith Head. I'll let you guys know how I like it! It's about dressing well, but really I'm more interesting in finding out more about Edith's personality. Either way, the art in it (by Bil Donovan) is super stylish.

Side note: West Side Story Vanity Fair shoot is pretty rad.

Also, on my never-ending quest for pretty shoes that fit well, I got this Nina Paladin shoe. The toe is pointy,... but it actually is very comfortable, and the heel isn't too high, but it still has a lovely shape! After I wear them for a bit, I may have to get it in another color, it's so rare for me to be truly happy with a shoe.

Burn it to DVD? I usually use ConvertXtoDVD. Or I just hook up my laptop to my HDTV and change the screen res to match the TV.

See if their DVD play supports playing back AVI/DIVX files, a lot of them do now.

That's probably the easiest way. What I do is connect my computer via VGA/HDMI cable to the HDTV to enjoy my highdef videos. Again, depends on the equipment.

I didn't know Edna Mode was based on Edith Head, but now that I do, it seems totally obvious now! She was so brilliant.

My fav Edith costumes are Grace Kelly's various gorgeous outfits in "Rear Window", like this one:

Barbara Stanwyck also gets some great Edith clothes in "The Lady Eve".

Oh, and don't forget she designed Grace Kelly's famous Oscar dress, which is still the "gold" standard for how to dress for the Oscars!

NO CAPES!

As far as I know, there shouldn't be any great issue to burn a DVD like you normally would and run it on an HDTV, any more than you'd have trouble running a off-the-shelf DVD on an HDTV. If the player plays, you should be golden.

I love Edith Head. Love love love. I have several of her biographies if you are interested. She was fascinating. And I love her glasses.

The best way (if they don't have anything set up already) would be to hook up a laptop with video-out to the HDTV.

All these suggestions that you burn the episodes to a video DVD neglect the fact that you'll have to downsize and recompress the files, losing most of the benefits of HD files, and playing on an HDTV. Of course, that only applies to the episodes you're getting in HD. If I read you correctly, most of the eps so far are SD videos, in which case just burning the files to a DVD as a data disc should work as long as they have a player capable of reading it. You might want to ask what they have hooked up. An Xbox360 and PS3 can both play certain types of video files on disc as well. Remember for most players the codec the video uses is what's important, not the file extension. Ideally you won't want to make a video DVD, since it's a lot more work.

Incidentally, did you know Doctor Who is going to be filming in HD soon? :D

I love E. BEST character out of the Incredibles and she's definitely a combo of the two designers in their extreme artistic natures XD

Well, I just noticed that the Macbook I have been coveting (and will be getting soon!) has a DVI out, and the option to get a DVI-DVI or DVI-VGA cable. I know I saw a VGA input on my mom's new TV, there might be a DVI too (I gotta look again), so it might be possible to hook a computer directly to the TV and play the file directly off the computer. I think. I plan to play with that more once I have the Macbook to fiddle with. :D

And those shoes are really pretty! I like the style, it looks very classy.

I love Edna Mode!!!

Frisky little animated person. Love the part where she go thru all those security features to get into the place where she stores all her costumes & design.

She also reminds me a lot of Marjan Hormozi, a painting teacher here at CalArts. Was she teaching when you were here? She's AMAZING ♥

Dont forget to put a giant curved set of stairs to no where, if you really aspire to be Edna Mode.
