Happy New Year a bit early
Dec. 24th, 2008 09:15 amThanks for the awesome year, you guys. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'll be out of town till Jan 4th.
I included some steps for making this one in the cut if you want. :)

SCROLL DOWN FOR PROGRESS

Reference images: (plus some googled images of fireworks and the London Eye)

sorry, I forgot to take pictures all the way through, so there's not that much of a progression here.

This time I traced in red pencil onto another sheet and colored on that, and then inked on top of the marker.
after the last marker image here (at the bottom) I added more fireworks (done with prismacolor pencil), some more black sky,.... drew in the Doctor's red pinstripes with a colerase pencil, and then highlighted Rose, the Doctor, and the London Eye with a white prismacolor pencil. Then I inked with a sakura pen (forget the type, sorry).
Still though, due to the dark colors and fireworks, I went in and darkened and highlighted a bit in photoshop. (the white of the pencil I used for the fireworks will only get so white... so it needs some help)

Date: 2009-01-05 01:23 am (UTC)i dunno. I agree: if he pulls off the spunky doctor attitude, I'll keep watching. but seriously I watch the show 80% for David Tennant. I could watch that guy all day, his faces are AMAZING.
also, Moffat did the girl in the fireplace, right? is Russell Davies still staying on? He did my favorite episode ever (season 4: the library 2-parter)
also...I will miss Catherine Tate. LOVED HER.

Date: 2009-01-05 02:49 am (UTC)and when Tennant came on, at least in the first couple eps, he's so manic and bouncy I was kinda like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING. give me back my angst doctor". but he really grew on me pretty quick and showed that he had the full range, too. In some ways he's even darker than the 9th doctor. Anyway, now I like Tennant the best.
I hear you about him being young, he seems kinda boyish to me. I mean fuck, he's younger than me. O_O.
but... if you watch the most recent doctor who confidential (the 11th doctor) Moffat is talking about how he wanted the next doctor to be older, like 40ish at least... but that he liked this guy so much that he had to go with him instead. So to me, that means he must have delivered a killer audition(s).
as to being sexy... with no eyebrows and that huge chin, do people really find him (at least on the outset) sexy?? O_O? lol. at least it'll make him easy to cartoon. He'll be immediately recognizable. Edward Cullen hair, no eyebrows, huge chin and cupid lips. lol.
I know what you're saying though about it seeming at the outset that they're going for the young sexy guy to follow in Tennant's tradition... but watching the guy in interviews... I dunno. I think they're all taking this very seriously and they really care about the show. I think if they'd found someone better who was older for the style they wanted they would have gone with him.
I'm just so fascinated to see someone like RTD and Moffat who are obviously huge fanboys, to say that they are really excited about this actor being the Doctor. They don't really have a reason to say that, because they COULD have picked someone else right? I mean Moffat's eps are hugely popular, and RTD's cred is riding really high right now. I doubt if they'd hated the guy he would have been picked, right?
watch the confidential if you haven't already, they seem to be purposefully emphasizing that he has the 'quote' "swagger" and the energy, etc, to be the doctor. they keep talking about how the Doctor has to have these quirky qualities.
I love Tennant. I'm hopeful that he'll do some other stuff that really capitalizes on his great range. I mean, his drama is great, and his quirky fun is great. that's what so great about the doctor role for him, he gets to pull the full range. Also why I'm so SAD I didn't get to see him play Hamlet. (Hamlet is actually a pretty crazed manic roll... so perfect for Tennant to play with!)
in this year (09's) season, there will only be about 4 long specials. These will be by Russel T Davies... and then Davies and Julie and Tennant and Phil are leaving. Moffat will be taking over Davies' position.
Moffat did Girl in the Fireplace, The Empty Child, the Silence in the Library two-parter and BLINK (ZOMG).
Tate said in an interview that she'd come back if they asked her, so I'm hopeful that maybe someday we'll get her back. I adored her. She really surprised me with how great her acting was for someone who's normally a comic actress.

Date: 2009-01-05 01:43 pm (UTC)I DID watch the confidential, as soon as I found out who he was, cause I wanted to see him in action. (i agree with you about the hand gestures btw) Im also renting the call girl series with Billie Piper cause hes in it too, supposedly. Dont get me wrong: I think he looks phenomenally interesting and I trust the writers. I just am a bitter, bitter, Tennant-loving lady. ;)
Yeah i knew also about the 09 schedule (Im officially a crazed fan now, so i do all the website/forum things too! ha!) and its a JIP we get such a non-season left! did you see the Christmas special yet? (I thought it was good)
and yes on Catherine tate---she really surprised me and stole my heart, even with her janky teeth! LOL

Date: 2009-01-05 11:06 pm (UTC)Tennants faces are SO awesome. I think that's what I'm going to miss the most from him. he's like Jim Carrey, but not so scary. you know?
I'm trying to get my director hooked and I'm telling him to watch Blink first. trouble is, plot wise you kinda have to have people watch the first season... even though there's a lot of kindof boring stuff in that one. to be fair though, most seasons have like at least 3 or 4 crap episodes... *_*
I agree, that 4th season is maybe the least crappy! haha. I say that with love. Mostly I d idn't like the Unicorn and the Wasp one.
I didnt really like the christmas one that much. Even though I loved Morrisey in Blackpool. Something about it just felt kinda cheesey to me. Miss Hartigan is fucking hot though. that red dress of hers. ZOMG.
HAHA YOU're CRAZY LIKE ME.
A couple of my friends saw the call girl thing and didn't like it. I'm not sure whether I'm going to watch it or not. Have you seen Casanova and Blackpool yet? Or Edison and whatever?
I love Tennant so much,... I'm really sad about him leaving. :( I really liked Julie, too. she seems to have really good ideas, ... so I hope that Moffat can pull it off!
I like random
Date: 2009-01-06 12:50 am (UTC)The christmas one was TOTTALLY cheesy---but that was mostly Morrisey. i thought maybe it was intentional in this case, cause he was like a 'character' of the Doctor, not the real thing---so it was exaggerated and corny. But dude i liked it just for Miss Hartigan. DRESS = SEX. i really liked her, i was sad she went KA BLOOM. (which actually was the only part i thought was truly cheesy)
I'll check out the call girl show and let you know what I think. i have no idea what those other things are you mentioned. are they shows???
Oh i will cry tears for Tennant---i hope he does more than just quick harry potter scenes in his career! (which i still rewatched even tho i hated the 4th movie just for DT! lol)
and its funny, me and brad said the same thing about DT: awesome faces without being retarded.
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-06 12:53 am (UTC)i also loved the episode about the sapphire waterfall cruise. it looked cheesy in the preview but it surprised me. the fact you never actually see an alien is what made it for me: it was all psychological. i thought it was neat. But still i ooze for the library one---WITH HIS FUTURE WIFE (!!!!) OH SWOON.
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-06 01:13 am (UTC)As to Season 1, if you haven't already seen them, maybe try "Dalek", "The Long Game", "Father's Day" and "The Empty Child"/"Doctor Dances". Those IMHO are the best ones other than the finale ones in Season 1.
I agree about the Christmas one with Morrisey. But Morrisey in Blackpool, he's cheesey, but there's still that depth of character there. With the xmas ep, it just felt all cheese to me. I think you're right that they were trying to make it part of that character, ie, he's not the real thing, like you said, but I was just "BLAH" about his attitude and lines and stuff. She was a little weird too. Some of her stuff was cool, but some of her reasons for hating people were kinda forced. Kinda like,... "duh, men suck. get over it". lol. but she was hot, so I'll forgive her. :D
OH OH OH... Ok, so now that you love Tennant, you have to watch Blackpool and Casanova. Both are miniseries.
Casanova is a BBC miniseries with Peter O'Toole (FRIGGIN A AWESOME). Also directed by Russel T Davies! This was before Doctor Who, and when RTD brought Tennant to Doctor Who, apparently he said "do the Doctor kinda like you did Casanova". so you really should watch it. It's like the Doctor as a filandering fop (ie, kinda Amadeus ... fuck. I can't spell...)
Blackpool, it's about this small-UK-version of Vegas. Morrisey plays a cheesey gambling parlor owner... someone gets murdered, and Tennant is the seedy gumshoe who tries to solve the murder. But here's the kicker, it's a musical, done karaoke style. With songs by Queen and the Temptations. and dancing. I think it's kinda either a love it or hate it sort of thing, but I bet you'll like it.
Do not watch "Secret Smile" with Tennant. CREEPY. DO NOT WANT. (Tennant as a stalker.)
I think at this point, Tennant is seriously hot shit and will get to do some really cool st uff as long as his next few choices are good. Getting to do Hamlet in London and Stratford I think was a huge deal for him. (and he rocked it apparently). Also Doctor Who is huge in the UK.
yeaaay glad to talk to you today. I'm so fucking bored. I'm sick and I can't concentrate on work AT ALL. I have to wait for a while before I can go home without looking like I'm cutting out. I'll have to catch up on work later.
RE: Unicorn and wasp : couldnt they think of a better monster than that? what were they thinking?? anything would have been better. I'm sure there's some agatha christie villian that they could have done something cool with, but NOOOOO... Giant WASP/transformation/furrycrap. lol.
the sapphire waterfall cruise: MIDNIGHT! I LOVE THAT ONE. I think that might be my favorite ep of the 4th season, for serious. People look at me like I'm crazy when I say that, but the acting, and how they built the suspense with so few characters and just one set and you never see the villain. I fucking loved it. I totally agree.
Loved River Song, too. I wonder if we'll get to see her in these last Tennant eps, since Moffat said that TEN was "her" doctor. But I bet we wont. It's kinda cooler just to imagine what their life was like. It might cheapen it by actually showing it in the show.
did you know they're releasing River's Sonic? You can preorder it on Forbidden Planet. XD
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-06 01:30 am (UTC)yeah i think Tennant will be in more stuff. he's not all romantic-y and suave like all the big british stars here in the US though, and that worries me. I mean _I_ adore him--but apparantly unless you can play a awkwardly loveable british man looking for love in all the wrong places---you dont get work here. but I will keep hoping and dreaming!
Dude Midnight was TOTTALLY awesome! Those people are crazy. the whole manipulation of people's fears to make them do what you want was brilliant.
so...that means the new doctor her 'her' doctor? they may have to change that tho, wont they?? cause she said that Tennant was "the youngest Ive ever seen you" when she saw him. and since the doctor doesnt age, that would mean that wouldnt work, right?? But yes....I look at that fat diary of hers and cant WAIT to see if we get to meet her someday again and watch it play out.
Im so intrigued by who the new companion will be! I have to say, for its faults, i did love the line in the Xmas spec, when the Dr. said about the companions, "They break my heart." i was like ;_;!!! I want to soothe him in my bosom.
oooooo i want a sonic screwdriver! (and not morissey's version LOL)
Im glad to talk geek!!
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-06 01:42 am (UTC)Midnight- Tennants acting in that was spellbinding! I loved that at the beginning when he's chatting with all of them and being all happy, that you can see how much he loves humans. He's so optimistic and cute about it... and then by the end they have crushed his spirit. It's just really fantastic arc for one episode, and done with so very little. Also liked that the house wife, who seems the most harmless at the outset, is the most icky of all of them.
With River, Moffat said at SDCC that River's whole story could have been inbetween episodes... and that there could be whole storylines that we don't know about.
I liked the idea of TEN's doctor getting older though, living a long time in that body and then meeting River Song. So I'm sad that we wont really see that. I mean..., at most we can guess that his body will live another year or two before he's going to regenerate into 11? even allowing for "extra stories inbetween" because his body will look about the same age as it did in the forth season, right? Specially since River's a human,... She'd expect the Doctor to age at a somewhat human rate.
Maybe some fucked up stuff will happen to him in the next four eps and he'll seem "aged" before he regenerates? Who knows.
That'd kinda suck to have River have her "story" with the 11th doctor though. Just doesnt seem right, does it? Maybe she'll meet him during ten (whether we see it or not) and then meet him again at a later doctor, like 12 or 13. I kinda like the idea of him keeping coming back to her in various incarnations. Kinda like, he explores the universe and when he needs bosom soothing, he goes running back to River Song. (OR US! I don't mind being your 4th wife, doctor!)
a lot of people dont like River either! I think they're just so "ZOMG" about Rose... but I think it's nice that we have hope for the Doctor's future. Even if Rose stayed in this universe,... unless she's all BadWolfSUPERHUMAN now, she'd age and eventually he'd be heartbroken again. They always break his heart!
but at least we have hope that he'll open up again because there's River! What a nice idea.
I think if people got used to tennant (here in the US) or if Doctor Who got more popular here, that he'd have a good chance.
OR, if they did another romantic "big cast" movie like Love Actually or Four Weddings and a Funeral... ... where he was one of like 5 leads...? then he could introduce himself to a bigger US audience. I have hope. Cause I think he's fucking adorable, but that's because of his ACTING. WHen I first saw him, I thought "papercut!" just like Donna, but now I think he's fabulous because of how I've seen him!
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-06 07:34 pm (UTC)I would LOVE disks of those shows! I actually CAN watch stuff like that on my big screen---we have our computers networked to our 360 so if its on our comp...its on our TV! should i paypal you some shipping $$?
btw, you have to check out this MAME cabniet. Brad found it when looking stuff up to update his:
http://www.craphound.com/images/mametardiscomplete.jpg
HOW AWESOME IS THAT.
and for the record, that housewife gave me the chills. i woulda thrown HER out the door.
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-07 07:14 pm (UTC)RoseXDoctor, I totally agree. I mean, they gave rose more than they will probably ever give a companion. She got to keep him for his whole (human) life. that's pretty huge. w hatever.
Sending you a dvd today! XD
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-07 09:08 pm (UTC)and its funny---i went looking for some Doctor icons last night and i was like JESUS ROSE. apparantly people love her more than i realized. i mean, i like her but WOW. honestly, Catherine tate was my fave for the 19th dr, but whatever! i actually PREFERRED that there was ZERO love interest between the two. like proper companions. and proves that not all girls just want to be lovey dovey.
and hahaha papercut....love it.
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-07 10:36 pm (UTC)I agree, I thought it was almost a more selfless friendship, and thus meant more, that Donna wasn't all lovey dovey with him.
shipping, it'd be like a couple bucks, it's not a big deal ^_^
Re: I like random
Date: 2009-01-08 12:31 am (UTC)omg thank you so much Aimee!!!!
