My friend Luis drew me a DR! :D We worked together on the Simpsons (and Luis still works there.) Check out his blog!

This is a Comic-Book Day post!

So I picked up "Doctor Who: The Forgotten" recently. I took a look at some of the other Doctor Who comics,... and well, frankly... I didn't care for them. But I really like the art (by Pia Guerra) in this one! It's a good likeness while keeping things lively and not too-photo-reffed. (I wish the cover was drawn by Pia Guerra, too!!)
I took a quick look through a bunch of other american comics, and I couldn't really find anything to catch my interest. So much stuff now has bad drawing (eyes floating off the side of the face) or way too stiff and obviously photo-reffed... or just not the type of art I enjoy looking at.

I did finally pic up Jo Chen's The Other Side of the Mirror. I've been a big fan of her art for years. Her figural work even in comic panels is gorgeous!

I'm still reading (and enjoying) XXXHoLic...

I find myself loosing interest in Nana (I'm up to about 70)... all the angst is just wearing thin on me.

Also, I got a couple of Paul Adam's UNTAMED sketchbooks (you can pick them up through his website)! He's one of the folks who collaborated on our Chimera comic a couple years ago. The awesome thing about Paul's art is that he can draw hot babes, awesome looking monsters with awesome mouths, and rad action sequences.

Hi Aimee,

Yeah, Pia Guerra is one of the artists I actually like for IDW's Doctor Who. I have no idea why IDW switches artists for each and every issue. I guess they're trying to speed up the release schedule or something, but it makes for very inconsistent art for one story arc =/.

The Forgotten looks very interesting unlike IDW's first series whose storyline was just messy I thought ;b. There were a couple good issues, but that's about it.

If you like Pia Guerra (I do, I love her art, and she looks like me! XD), you should check out Y:The Last Man. The entire 60 issue series has been collected into trade paperbacks, and it's a fantastic read. The art is just solid and good.

Ooh, I really like Pia Guerra's art on this. Thanks for the heads up, it's been too long since I last went to the comic book store.

I was gone for a while because my life was weird and my job was hell, which made my life even more weird/boring/didn't wanna talk to anyone anymore.but I'm better now!

Just getting back into the whole internet art scene...you know....without getting too "close"...o_O

I want to still enjoy it after a month. getting too involved means dealing with morons.

Mark Bagley is a huge offender in the wandering-eyeball thing -- I pointed it out to Kyle, and now he CAN'T UNSEE IT. Oops.

Pia Guerra seems to be doing a fabulous job with this!

I still have to photo reference the art of The Doctor that I have done. I am not planning to do a ton of art for the character. Mostly it has been for fun and for my brother who is a huge fan. I do try to adapt the different Doctors to my style for the most part and not make them too realistic. At least I hope I don't.

I picked up the issue too and it was great. The artwork and writing was solid. The cover artwork annoys me though, why Nick Roche?

I Know what you mean by lousy artwork these days, I was going to pick up Fantastic Four: True Story but I was hesitant since the artwork looked awful even the coloring, so I decided to wait for the graphic novel.
