So, on Tues, I didn't have to work so I randomly decided to go downtown and pick up some fabric and accessories for my Rose Tyler costume (from The Idiot's Lantern episode). On the way, I drove by the Eastern building (which is across from the Orpheum theater)... the Eastern building is one of my all-time favorite old LA buildings. The first photo is mine, and the second is from google. It's made of this beautiful blue and teal tile.

what I picked up for my costume, it's not absolutely perfect, but it's pretty close on a budget!

it was a pretty great day. I had my iPod on and listened to AC/DC, the Darkness and all manor of silly rock songs on repeat while I walked through the fabric and garment district.

I also looked at some suits. They're always asking, "what is this for?" "Is this for a show" "are you wardrobe?"
.... and what am I supposed to say? "Well, I want to dress my husband up like a character from a BBC show so that he can wear it to a geeky convention and dance around." so instead, I say, "Yes, I'm in wardrobe". (which helps explain my OCD-ness when I go, "I'm sorry, that color brown isn't exactly perfect for my show!!")

work has been very "chill", too. and random awesome things keep happening. So pretty much, this week has ROCKED. I needed a rockin week. so booya.

I had no idea that L.A. had such wonderful architecture. I usually think of New York for beautiful skyscrapers but that's exquisite. How is the inside? Is it just as nice?

LA has some truely beautiful old buildings (especially theaters and the like) if you know where to look. The sad thing is that many of them are in disrepair. but over the past couple years, there's been a real upswing in fixing up some of the old ladies so that they can be used modernly, while still keeping their historic beauty. :)

there's some more about the Eastern here:

(including a bit of interior shot)

heheh~ that's what my friend Roxy dressed up as for halloween with her her husband. she dyed her hair blonde for it, which was really shocking for me. XD She and I both have such dark hair!

It's funny because her husband is actually english... and there's a picture of my dad in that set too. o.o;

I tell you what, if it wasn't so much long-term work, I would totally dye my hair on a lark. haha. But I'd have to bleach it and that would SUCK.

They are ADORABLE. I've been wanting to make a dress of this timeperiod forever, so gives me a good excuse, and it was that or the union jack outfit (which I might do anyway)

shamefully... the jacket was a bought jacket from topshop, but they're hard to find now, years after the fact. :( :(

I WANT ONE. I'd wear it normally!!

I think for this case, I'll just wear my jeans jacket though, it'll do well enough.

Really! It's a Topshop jacket! I wish I had been more on the ball a few years ago with this Dr. Who business. ^_^;;

I'm thinking I might alter an old Member's Only jacket they are pretty cheap on ebay. lol

Oh I love building with different tile. There's an old Lazarus that recently turned into Macy's that has blue tile :)

haha that's a good excuse when buying fabric.. I don't think I would pull that off where I live though. Most of the time though, no one asks why I'm buying yards of fur (I sell kitty ears) or interesting fabric.

You are so awesome, I can't even tell you. But I'm tickled five shades of pink that you're making Rose's adorable costume from TIL and that people think you work for someone's wardrobe department ^^

That building looks really cool!
One thing that I really like about my school is that it has preserved a lot of beautiful art deco elements.

Aimee, you are awesome. I love that part about listening to AC/DC and buying all things pink. It's almost a contrast in taste, but somehow you pull it off with flair! Your costume is going to be amazing. I can't wait to see it finished! Please post photos! =)

I also love your cartoons and your sense of humor. Perfecto!

There's another artist around LJ who periodically does Doctor Who fan-art. You should check her art out:

It's fantastic!

well... if you know me better, it makes perfect sense that I am wearing a ruffly hot pink shirt, buying sparkly pink fabric and listening to AC/DC. It goes with my retarded sense of humor, see?

her art is really neat and steampunky! XD
