men maids, garment district
Mar. 1st, 2008 10:03 amapparently there ARE maid cafes where men are dressed as maids! ...
or try the photos here!
headsup, another fabulous Vogue Italia photoshoot on fotodecadent
now, onward to more frou-frou!

So Char (Tristen Citrine) decided to come slum it with me this weekend! We have both been very worn out the past few months, so it was girly weekend time. (I have been very lucky lately to spend so much time with my friends, it's been much needed.)
Char wanted to go to the garment district in downtown LA. It turned out being a great day to go because it wasn't too hot and there was a nice breeze. Also the area is MUCH less crowded and less full of gross smells on Friday than on the weekend.
First on the agenda, BREAKFAST. yummy bakery with icecreamfloats and bread.

Then, it was very important that we try on giant prom/Quinceanera dresses. (otherwise known as cake dresses.) They come in all kinds of awesome dayglo colors. We both got a reasonably priced slightly-more-casual frou frou dress. (not shown)
Somewhat desperately, I wanted this lime green giant cake dress. But perhaps it is for another day. ... someday... I will have a giant cake dress.

for Jez:

Then we saw this adorable frou-frou fairy flowers dress shop this was the shop

then... PIMP STORES. I'm not sure what I want more,... a striped pimp suit and a pair of these shoes... or a giant cake dress. They had pimp suits for little kids, too.

Also, there were cheap jewelry stores EVERYWHERE. I got probably like 7 necklaces, and all of them were $1 each. I felt like I had found free treasure. Giant heart necklaces and strawberries with glitter. WIN.
after combing the district for the perfect party dress for Char, we finally settled on THIS dress. (she looks like a Barbie doll in it. It's fabulous.)

the bad myspace photo of our faces after trying on prom dresses

Now starving, we went and ate the prom at the Curry House, bought sexy anime books at Kinokuniya and then drove down to Torrance. At Torrance we bought cat stationary with bizaare sayings on it, cheap tea cups and Hina Matsuri Mochi.
Then we went to have dinner with Callie and Bailey and company at Chick Fil A.
it was a good day!!!

Date: 2008-03-01 07:31 pm (UTC)The green one is to die for, if I had the money, I'd buy it just to wear it to the park.

Date: 2008-03-02 12:30 am (UTC)but seriously, I think anime cons are excuses to wear cake dresses too. If someone asks, just say you are and artbook version Sailor Moon or something.

Date: 2008-03-02 04:24 am (UTC)That's such a good idea! A lot of cons are having formal balls now... it's perfect!

Date: 2008-03-01 09:55 pm (UTC)I want to go to a butler cafe--you know, where the butlers are all otokoyaku-type women. A Japanese toy store in San Jose supposedy has a part-time maid cafe, but I am somewhat leery...
