and now is the time where we dance!

note there are a few more photos and details in my previous LJ post

THIS POST IS SUPER LONG AND TALKY! BEWARE!

---------------------------THURS
we slept in and then went out for a bit in NY before going to NYAF.

NY Library. Needs more Ghostbuster's ThemeMUSIC!

a couple cute store windows:

---------------------------NYAF for Opening Ceremonies.

It was a bit nervewracking to go up on stage after PETER FERNANDEZ and CORINNE ORR (ie Speedracer voices and lots of other awesomeness). I probably said something silly onstage.

I got to briefly see Patrick Macias and Izumi Evers again. Patrick edits OtakuUSA and wrote with Izumi, THE JAPANESE SCHOOLGIRL INFERNO and they are both all kinds of awesome.

then I met some of the ladies at TokyoPop for the Gothic and Lolita Bible translation release. chatted about the changing markets in Japan and the USA. I'd been working with the editors for the GLB via email, however I hadn't met them in person yet (they are totally adorable, btw. and very serious about making the GLB translation authentic) anyway, I saw Kathy who's one of the editors on the project, and I hadn't realized that she was the twin sister of Chrissy who I worked with at Go! Comi. Anyway, I hug Kathy, thinking she was Chrissy. haha. :) The cover of the new GLB looks really awesome! my super dollfie Usagi is on the cover! (I was shocked!)
We served some tea to lolis. :)

Thanks to David for the photos :).

Went to the Go!Comi panel and then...

--------------------------- masquerade! -

(which went really well!)
Regarding the masquerade, ACP has some highquality videos out!
http://www.acparadise.com/cons.php?cyid=906&t=3

My judges award went to:Roxas Doesn't Feel Like Dancing... but, honestly, I wanted to give the award to like 5 groups.
I wish we'd had more awards to give out in general. it was really hard judging. (I only judged performance, not craftsmanship or WCS). even now I can't get the Roxas Doesn't Feel Like Dancing beegee's song out of my head. XD

... also the MKR girls were SO ADORABLE. there's a video up of them, but honestly, their dance steps looked so awesome in person. you can't see it in the video. even with those capes and all, they were so cute and well rehearsed.
...also there was a really super Kingdom Hearts group with amazing craftsmanship. (and a really great skit) (Keyblade War)
...the Keep it Simple Keep it Uniform (Code Geass) also slayed me. The death stare and the silly dancing was great. It's another one that probably wont look as great on youtube, (because you cant see their great facial expressions) but was awesome in person.
...awesome Midna (with AWESOME hair) and awesome queen esther.
...and the people from Battle of the Pink-Haired Superstars and From Nobody to Somebody, were a RIOT, they were really into it, great facial expressions and dancing, too.
I could go on and on, there were a lot of really great ones.

---------------------------SATURDAY

I got Der Tod-ified and did a couple panels and signings. I ran into Lindze, Twinkle, Dia and animeangel, who are all awesome. I hadn't seen Lindze in forever! also got to meet LadyoftheThread and lots of other neat cosplayers .... Like most people the con though, all of us were so busy, I didn't get to hang out that much. I only saw Char and Mara briefly, too.

Me, Audry and David at the Go! Comi Booth (thanks to PW for the photo!) (geez, I'm so tall!)

So I've been a fan of Wendy Pini's stuff for a while, but since Wendy started her Masque of the Red Death comic about the same time I started with Japan Ai at GO!Comi, we've been attending a lot of conventions together! We'd met previously, but it's fun hanging out inbetween panels. You really should check out Red Death. It's based on the Edgar Allan Poe poem, but kinda like Gankutsuou is based of Count of Monte Cristo. Also, it's a cinematic/flash webcomic, and it's free online. So really you have absolutely no excuse not to check it out.

Here's Wendy and I trying our best to look oh so GoTh XD (another photo) If you want more photos and a full report from Wendy, please see her blog.

and here's Wendy with Svetlana and Audry (from Go!Comi).
Svetlana is all kinds of adorable. I still am in her complete debt for the awesome quote she did for the back of Japan Ai. Also her DramaCon manga is now in it's third volume. It's a really sensitive and funny story about a fan-manga author and relationships at anime conventions. And I'm not just saying it's awesome because I love Svet. It really is adorable. I'm glad I got to glom her a few times at the con.

Then after missing dinner (but finding CHEESECAKE, which is important to survival)... we saw Cyrano:

This is me outside the theater after the performance. Someone paid several thousand for Cyrano's prothetic nose (for charity). I'm holding one of the red autumn "leaves" that falls in the final scene.

a pretty accurate review of Cyrano

---------------------------SUNDAY

my cosplay panel went really well! I was worried about it because usually I do panels with the other HCC girls, and this was my first time doing a cosplay panel on my own. But it seemed like it went well and people learned stuff, so hurrah!

Me and Char duke it out with a plantain from Kaiju Big Battle! Then to celebrate our victory, we had a crepe.

The con wound down,...
Go! Comi worked really hard to get Japan Ai out. I really don't think another publisher would have understood where I was going with it as well as they did. I'm really greatful to them and NYAF for this trip.

after leaving NYAF, we had a couple extra days... so Mitch and I went out to NY for a bit.
Time's Square

Rockefeller Center

some more fancy store windows: (based on the elements)

the outside of Tavern on the Green
(which was like a shiny shiny crystal ball going in... but felt quite tacky and Lawrence Welk on the inside... it was fun but the food was only so-so.)

---------------- MONDAY

today we went shopping and looking around. Went in Dior and Chanel and Anthropologie.
(bought nothing, of course!)
Grand Central Station, where they had a sort-of light show going on. We got bagels and napoleons.

we randomly found this waterfall garden and took a break.

Mitch grabbed the wrong chapstick. XD hahaha...

someone playing (quite well) in the subway station.

We went to Ruby Foo's (asian fusion) for lunch.

The outside of the new MAC store!

which is right next to FAO

at Takashimaya we had some green tea and rested. It was a gorgeous store, but microscopic compared to the ones in Tokyo.

Empire State says Happy Hanukkah!

some cathedrals around town

then we went to Serendipity 3 which is a FABULOUS cafe an desert shop.
this is what we ate:

---------------- TUES

Dunkin Donuts for breakfast! hurray!

We went to the Cloisters
here's a couple photos of the medieval art collection there.
it's a bit far away from most things, but area is quiet and gorgeous.

I've always found medieval art a bit creepy... case in point:

look, it's the austrian crest...! (so where's Der Tod?!)

one of the big reasons we came was to see the Unicorn Tapestries. I've always wanted to see them because of The Last Unicorn. The tapestries are HUGE! (the other reason we came is because the Cloisters shows up in Gargoyles, and just because we dig ancient art museums)

Later we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which I adore. Unfortunately the Japanese, much of the American, and the entire Costume exhibit was closed (WHAT?!) But in a way it turned out great that way because I saw more of the other parts of the European and American wings than I would have otherwise. Seeing some of the John Singer Sargents was great. I hadn't seen the Egyptian section for 10+ years... and it brought back all my love for Egyptian sculpture.
Some pretties:

Tiffany window:

just a beautiful face:

parts of this room belonged to Marie Antionette! I love these period rooms!

after we got out we went by this Italian fusion restuarant called Serefina's right down the street from the Metropolitan. It was totally delicious.

and then, because we weren't fat enough yet... we went to this great French Patisserie, Payard. They were playing French music... the waiters are all dressed up pretty... and the pastries... oh, my god, so adorable. The two I got were named Bagatelle (just like the sister garden near the onsen I went to!) and Louvre. (also a mini eclaire)

that's it....! whew!

Do you know if the English GLB will have patterns in it as well?

my understanding is that any non-moldy items will be in the English GLB. so some of the fashion things that are more old-fashioned and out of date, may not be included, but things like interviews and patterns would be. as they start to get caught up, it will echo the current GLB.
