it seems like all my favorite kimono and obi are all from the taisho period. (1920's Japan) I love the colors and painting/embroidery styles they used then. Regretably most kimono from that period are too short for me. Maybe I should just do some paintings inspired by the color and style keys, huh?

a couple lovely examples from a fast search:
dog haori ----- child's kimono
orange furisode ----- indigo furisode
gorgeous red, white and black furisode set

... related, take a look at apricot8585's art. ... and xiaobaosg's

also ...need more silent film love.

I also really like Chinese advertisement pinup girls from the 1920's-30's
lady with plum tree
NSFW pinup
Lady with butterfly
(I want to paint one of these!!!)

... apparently I just love the 1890's-1920's worldwide,... cause it's also art nouveau... like Casa Horta, Beardsley... mucha of course... this fabulous doorway..... (though some of this was more 1890's.... )

... all of these are just from very quick google searches. Honestly I need to get some really really respectable artbooks from these periods,... along with me needing more classic fairy tale (illustrated) books. How is it that two of my most most favorite things my personal library is seriously lacking in?

... in case you didn't get enough pinups in this post,... Lookie! For Fun! (du barry!)

I totally want to do like 5 illustrations right nooooow, but I'm so exhausted. Stupid cold. I'll save this post for later to inspire me into arting.

What wonderful things you've dug up!! I have that beautiful Art Nouveau doorway as a poster- next to my two glorious Mucha prints that I have. I adore Art Nouveau. Aaaah.

And guess what? I snagged the last Japan Ai in my Louisville borders as a Christmas gift! According to the girl there, they've been rapidly disappearing off the shelves! ;D

I adore Mucha. Got to visit the Mucha museum in Prague, that was really great. :)

I have such a love for Art Nouveau, Beardsley, Mucha... *_* I don't care if Beardsley was thought to be gay/asexual/sleeping with his sister, he's AWESOME and Oscar Wilde chose him to be his special artist!

Oh man, those Chinese pin up girls, BLAST FROM THE PAST. I remember seeing those kinds of paintings in old Korean magazines that my grandmother had! They've probably withered away to nothing now but that brings back memories. Pin up girls in general are LOVE.

Roughly in-genre...
