So last night Mitch and I went to the futurama premiere at the Arclight. It was pretty nice! This first movie actually is my favorite of the four, so it was really nice to see it on the big screen. (and by nice I mean daunting to see all of your drawings that HUGE. O_O)

I must say that other than eating way too many mini cupcakes,
... my highlight of the evening was talking to John DiMaggio. Bender is my favorite and John has a such a funny voice. Actually, earlier in the evening, the projection failed like 3 times when they started the movie (how embarrassing!), and DiMaggio went up to the front and dragged all the other voice actors up there to entertain the crowd for a while while the Arclight rebooted their system. Him describing how he came up with the Bender Voice was awesome (part sausage lover! ho ho!) (good thing they invited the voice actors, huh??)

Anyway, so I normally don't go up and talk to the actors, I just don't really care and I don't really have anything to say to them anyway.... but I wanted to say hi to DiMaggio specifically, and he was totally awesome. I'd heard stories he was nice, but he really WAS. He went on for quite a bit about how awesome he thought it was that we (the character layout folks) seem to always get all the nuances in his voice. That he feels frustrated at the finite quality of the way voice acting is, but when he sees the way we end up drawing bender, he's always so amazed. and I was going up to thank HIM for doing such great voice acting to inspire us to do good drawings! Normally the artists on a show get pretty much ignored, it's the writers or actors that people pay attention to, so this is nice. We toasted like 2 times. So there's my bit of out-of-character starry-eyed geekery for you all.

Also, some of you asked what scenes I did on it. It's hard for me to remember because I did revisions also, so my hand was on a lot of scenes. But one particular one I don't mind telling you I did is one of the opening scenes (during the Futurama song) where Amy is flying around some planets on her hover-board with a cocktail in her hand. :) I did that one.
Also "A Terrifying Message from Al Gore" (also on the DVD) was made by my friend Steph with a couple all-nighter assists from me.
on a side note, there's actually a very frighteningly small number of layout artists who worked on the Futurama DVDs, meaning that each artist worked really really hard.

interview with the directors and my boss, etc...

on the way out they gave us a copy of the DVD and a little Bender. It's pretty nice actually! Normally I'm not "given" a copy of the stuff I work on.

That's really cool! I love Futurama! I will use my Futurama icon even though I am not considering suicide for 25 cents. :-)
