the wild swans and Girls Drawing Girls

I got invited to be part of Girls Drawing Girls which is a group of girls (mainly animation artists) who are doing themed pinup drawings. :) They had a book out at Comic-Con this past year, and we'll be doing more themes, shows and books coming up.

The next show is at Castle Green
Friday, Oct 12 from 6pm to 10pm
99 Raymond Ave, Pasadena, CA 91105, so save the date if you're in the area.

I'm hoping to have a piece there, but either way there'll be a lot of really cool artwork.

---- JAPAN AI --- also, apparently I'm in previews this month? Is that true? I didn't know! lol! I'll have to go to the comic book store tomorrow and be a total dork and be all like "LOOOK IT's MEEEEEEEE"

WILD SWANS ---
If anyone knows of some place online where I can find some cool illustrations from the Wild Swans, that would be rad. (the H.C. Anderson fairy tale where the 11 brothers are swans.) I found one fairy tale book on Amazon, but my collection is woefully small for this fairy tale and I need a little inspiration.

retrato de una dama another cool marie-ish photoshoot at foto-decadent.

I think Charles de Lint and Charles Vess did a Seven Swan Brothers chapbook . . .

The Girls Drawing Girls thing sounds really cool!

I wish I had easy access to my mom's old set of children's books. I loved the illustrations for that story in those. I'll see if there's anyway I can sneak off on Sunday when I'm there and scan the illos somehow.

even quick photos of it would be helpful, I wouldnt want you to damage the books! Even if I can't see everything, the general idea of things would be inspirational, I'm sure. :)

either way! and thank you for the offer. :)

Oh crap, I totally have a picture book of that fairy tale... somewhere.

SHIT... now I gotta go find it. If I do, I'll try and scan it for you.

Man I love these sorts of photoshoots! I wish I could do something like that with Geisha/Maiko stuff but I'd probably end up looking like a beached whale XD

Congrats on the book preview! Good stuff :)

Ah, so you were invited to the GirlsDrawingGirls this year? Congrats! ^___^ Do you get to choose what you want to draw?

*thinks* Try and look up the comicbook version by Sussi Bech. I don't know if its published in englishs (its originally danish), but the illustrations are great

Congrats on 'Girls drawing girls'.
I saw something about that last year and thought it sounded really cool!

wow, that is AWESOME. I love the shapes!

I want that book! WAH! I wonder where I can find it!

thanks! that's the one I just bought from amazon! It's BEAUTIFUL!

Ooh, Girls Drawing Girls! One of my old classmates is part of them, Danni Luo. It looks like so much fun, I'm happy for you! :D

Ohhh, I love that old Anderson tale. While I don't know about places online, libraries are often my target for cool illustrations of children's books.

[identity profile] aimeekitty.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, you know her? she works down the street from me. I met her a couple weeks ago to draw during lunch. :)

I should probably take a long lunch break and go to the library. the burbank one is rad and has a big tree inside. XD

[identity profile] bluejeans07.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! Danni and I had a few classes together at Art Center and she graduated the term after I left I think. I'm absolute pants at keeping in touch, but I check her blog from time to time and she's a fantastic and lovely person as well as a great artist. :D

Go for it! Libraries are some of the best places in the world, says the book nerd.

Hopefully I can make it to the show, I LOVE Castle Green, that's such a cool place to have a gallery show at! :D

OOooo! Girls Drawing Girls! Congrats!! I had a friend who did it last year and it looked soooo fuuuun! XD

That is my very favorite fairy tale. :) If I get a change and a scanner, I'll make some scans from the picture books I have. Also, Aimee's Dolpa NY contest entry was the youngest prince from that story, a bit at my insistence, hehe. I should also work on that novel again. *lazy*

Hi Aimee,

Here ;)!

Sorry for the crooked scan O~O! It was hard to line up the fat Previews book on my scanner.
