Hello Kitty egg! Where did you find an egg shaper??

You can make onigiri with any steamed rice...? is microwave-steamed different somehow? I usually mix together some sugar and rice vinegar, a dash of salt, then mix the rice thoroughly. Shape with your hands or molds, then wrap in nori.

Microwave rice tends to be a lot looser and not as gummy. Your suggestion of adding sugar will help.

I havent tried yet so I dont know! is onigiri rice with more water, or stickier than normal? or do I just make the rice normally, and then add the sugar/vinegar?

How are you cooking the rice? Is the water/ rice ratio correct? It's usually 1 1/4 water to 1 cup rice and let the rice sit in the water 15~30 minutes before cooking... but then I have a japanese rice cooker...

For the onigiri... in the asian markets there are onigiri flakes to add to the onigiri to give different flavors. I like the Salmon one myself... I usually I shape it by wetting my hands and lightly salting the outside of the hot rice (it has to be hot) and adding salmon in the middle, fish roe or umeboshi...

adding vinegar and sugar starts to make sushi rice and I'm not much into making my onigiri into a sushi...

Hey Aimee!
Mmmm, that looks delicious!

This is my friend's LiveJournal Bento recipe site...she does some pretty creative stuff with her bento, and has lots of recipes too. She also might have some ideas for your rice queries.

hahahaha I love your "angry rice"! <3
As for the HK egg, I'm thinking the egg was maybe too big for the mold. Did it fill the mold all the way up? If so, maybe that's why it stayed so rounded. I love that mold! I need to buy some more bento stuff. I end up just putting boring leftovers in my cute HK bento boxes. ;)

Your Kimono is absolutely gorgeous. The colors are so beautiful!!!

Oh wow, you look so cool as Yuuko! I absolutely adore any CLAMP manga, and I must say you're the best Yuuko cosplay-er I've ever seen.
