geisha gala, torrance and goodies
Nov. 18th, 2006 09:26 pmSo, it's really been a great weekend!
First off, Mitch put Youta upsidedown in my animation desk drawer. Well, he's kinda like a turtle:

Today, I decided I was going to go out and have fun all by myself. :) I went to Torrance and went to a neat kimono store... They were SO NICE TO ME! The nice woman who ran the store said I could call her anytime with kitsuke questions. The store was beautiful and relaxing. Then I went to the Volks store. Also relaxing and lovely.
Then I went to Del Amo Fashion Center which has a HUGE Joann's. and I found fabric with dots and cakes! :D then I had CHICK FIL A!
and then this great fog came over, and the sun was setting, so the fog turned pink! It was like sugar clouds.

Oh, so yesterday, I went to the "Geisha Gala" and got to see taiko drums and a beautiful Geisha.

Date: 2006-11-19 08:17 am (UTC)The kimono shop sounds so nice and you got such cute fabric! Do they make custom kimono? I'd love to have one someday, but so far, can only afford vintage.
And, wow! The Geisha Gala sounds amazing! You look so lovely in your kimono! It looks like you did a perfect job dressing, down to having only a little of your obi-age showing and your obi-jime just a little below center as appropriate for a married woman, although you look young enough to still be wearing furisode. ^_^

Date: 2006-11-19 10:06 am (UTC)You look pretty in Kimono! :D That looks like it was loads of fun! Pretty geisha dance too, looks like. :)
Wheeeeeeeee Taiko! :D I just got back from the International Taiko Festival Performance in San Francisco (my group wasn't performing - we were in the front row though, cheering), and I am bouncing off the walls to go straight to my Taiko Dojo and play up a storm, but of course I can't at this hour of the night... :( (I was just told they need me on Tues. for an unscheduled gig though, so I'll get my chance soon! :) )

Date: 2006-11-19 02:45 pm (UTC)The fabric is from Joann's though. :D
I think Youta is more like 16 lb or so though, so your cat is probably bigger. :D
the lady at the kimono store apparently thought I was younger, which is a change. (because I never get carded *single tear*) but thanks! :D! the obijime a little low was by accident, but nice to know that accidentally it's right. :D

Date: 2006-11-19 05:11 pm (UTC)Is the kimono store the department store in between the Fire Tower and Bunkado in Little Tokyo? That's the only one I know about . Those han-eri are really pretty :)

Date: 2006-11-20 12:31 am (UTC)Random tangent: Ohhh, I wish I could commission a proper wig for Kitsuko, I keep plotting as to how to make a shimada-style wig for her, but she does quite well with her current hime-cut :>
Love the photos!!

They brought over a Geiko from Japan just to promote this movie! She was so nice, I feel very lucky to have seen her. They feature her (and many others ) in this film. Highly recommend. I just saw it tonight and I might go back to morrow. There's no guarantee that it will show up on dvd, etc...
