^--- new art (sortof)
Today's Comic Purchases:
Trinity Blood (SQUEEE!)
Tsubasa (adorable art as usual)
Banya (by Kim Young-Oh) - I bought this one because I really liked how the artists drew faces. It reminded me a bit of Vagabond (in a good way.) Very expressive and full of action!
Emma - this one is about a maid in 19th century England. I bought it based on someone else's glowing recommendation, despite being very not "wowed" by how the artist drew faces... I decided to give it a shot. I'm SO GLAD I DID. After you get past the kinda primitive drawing of faces... this book is actually VERY endearing! The artist obviously went to a huge amount of trouble to get the location and details accurate to the time and period. It's very delicately told like a Jane Austen type story. Also, the choice of shots was poignant and sensitive. I ended up really wanting to read the next book and totally caring about the characters, and actually growing to like the art. :) I recommend for girly-manga lovers.
Othello - this is an older manga that I picked up on a whim because it had EGL in it. I'm retarded. However, I also enjoyed it. It has a little of "Peach Girl" feeling to it. If you like "The Devil Does Exist" or "Peach Girl" you'd probably like this one.

Date: 2006-11-10 02:49 am (UTC)however, both the fantranslations AND the tokyopop translation... I found them hard to read verbally. (as if they were either poorly written or poorly translated) sometimes it was a little hard to follow what was being said, even though I'm already familiar with the story.
However, the art is fabulous!

Date: 2006-11-10 04:27 am (UTC)I didn't know Emma had a manga. I only saw the anime...and I totally agree about the wierd faces. They turned me off at first, but the story is adorable.
I like the one she wrote before Othello...it's a really cute love-comedy. It's called Guru Guru Pon-chan. I think it's been published in the States, but I can't think of the name now... Oh, it's the same in English (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FGuru-Pon-Chan%2Fdp%2F0345481437%2Fsr%3D8-1%2Fqid%3D1163132551%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks&tag=axia-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325).
If you loved Peach Girl, then there's this anime called "Bokura ga Ita" that's a love story like that. I haven't read the manga yet but the anime made me teary *blush* It was really good so far in the same kind of heart-wrenching sort of way.

I wasn't going to pick up the Trinity Blood manga, thinking the anime was good enough for me, until I skimmed through it. I LOVE Chibi Abel moments X)!
