so, everyonce in a while I buy this magazine called "sew beautiful" which focuses on things like embroidery, pintucking, smocking and heirloom sewing... all of which I've always been facinated by and would like to learn. I think christening dresses are just gorgeous. *_*

One of the most recent issue had a tutorial and pattern for doing a "bluebird of happiness" design with bullion. I used to embroider when I was in like gradeschool, but I haven't done it for like 10 years, I dont' remember anything.

Could anyone recommend a good book that I could start to learn embroidery from? Like not just normal embroidery but things like bullion, beaded embroidery and making flowers and things like that? (I suppose if I must learn "normal" embroidery to learn the more complex things then so be it!)

I can TOTALLY see myself embroidering little things on my favorite skirts and shirts... plus it's just pretty. ( I need a little more flowers in my life! :) )

Oooh! "The Cross Stitcher's Bible" has just about every embroidery stitch ever invented in it with many variations. It has fun little projects in it, too! mau mau mau <3 Look into Toile style stitching, too. It's very elegant and beautiful.

You have a Viking machine, so DEFINITELY take advantage of an Heirloom sewing class at your local dealer. Viking has the BEST stuff for heirloom machine sewing. There's so much new neat stuff to play with!

"A~Z of Bullions" is a good book. A friend of mine who sews got that one, and I looked at it, and though the pics/diagrams were pretty good.

I really enjoy the gentle art of embroidered embellishment! You certainly could bring more flowers into your life this way!

I'm always looking for patterns of things I would actually want to embroider and DMC has introduced a great line with lots of celtic knot patterns! And their floss is gorgeous!

Do you know about the Chinese "forbidden stitch?"

Cross stitching is also what I was going to say. It's so super easy and you'd be able to carry those anywhere you go. Kimi carries her jacket she's stitching in the car to work on randomly and it seems like a neat idea :)
