those of you who are artists,...
what are your favorite art forums, some place that gives actual constructive crits from experienced artists preferably?

I'm taking Spock, Kirk and Bones to work today.

Do you actually find that you get good suggestions there?

I've never posted art there, because I'm way intimidated by the talent on the board. In general, the comments are fair. A few people can say jerky stuff sometimes, but there are other people around now who tell them to shut up... it seems a lot less "lol boyz club" than it used to be.

I used to visit eatpoo all the time. I used to visit conceptart.org a lot. then there was CGchannel.com.

I got bored with all of them. (I suck) I just got tired of "make her tits bigger lol" and "I'm 14 and draw DragonballZ I'm gonna tell you how bad you are at anatomy." I also realize that I have to be in the mood to be "inspired" by kickass art...or else I just get REALLY down on myself when I see how awesome other people are. >_< (again, I suck and need therapy...working on it)

ps. I also get bored with 400 replies with "omg awesome, I love this, love this, love it, great, awesome job, omg kewl, etc etc"

The badasses you actually WANT crits from are either too polite or too busy to really respond, most of the time.

*cynical!*

all of the reasons you posted are the reasons that I kinda didn't bother for a long time. I'd love to have a decent crit from someone who knows what they are talking about. :\

Well...Brianne had Private Exchange going for a while. It was a GREAT place when I was there. I'm PRETTY sure you already recieved an invitation to it.... :va but I can't quite remember.

Personally I want to start an invite only forum with really good artists who can help each other improve. ;A;/ Focusing on intelligent crits and self improvements!

PE is still open, and yes it's my invite only or you can be voted in after a current member suggests you.

Yeah I had to drop out of PE a while back. It's SUCH an awesome forum. :'( Someday, if I can, maybe I'll go back to it...

You might wanna check out http://conceptart.org/forums/
I've seen some great stuff being posted there.

But internet is internet after all, I don't think one can be safe from art-thieves or anonymous flamers anywhere.

there's great stuff posted lots of places, you know? My concern is actually getting feedback instead of hearts and skittles or crap crits

I go to conceptart.org occasionally. I don't go to eatpoo...the people there can be pretty rude (just my opinion...I've seen many there be unnecessarily rude to people who just want crits).

Every time I've posted there, I've always received constructive criticism. Similar to, "great work here, you might want to check the placement of the nose," etc. I've just recently started posting there again, and so far I haven't had a problem. There are A LOT of members though, so sometimes your posts can get lost amongst the more regular artists, but I'll probably keep posting there from time to time. There are a lot of professionals that post there, and even if I don't get all the feedback I would like, there is still a lot of great artwork there to admire and get inspired from.
I'm "Jess" on that forum, btw.
I'd love for my own forum to become a place where people can come and get honest critiques too, but we don't have many members at the moment.

I frequent http://forum.farlowstudios.com; but this forum is only really applicable to comic styled art.

I've used various forums over the years and the only I really sitck to are ocad and epilogue. Epilogue is usually good for critiques, only there are couple know it alls who inhabit the work in progress forum who should be ingnored half the time.

I pretty much stick to conceptart. Used to do eatpoo more than I do now, but it just seemed like they were more focussed on fun than on art (not that this is a bad thing... just not what I was looking for).

I actually don't frequent _any_ forums right now. ^_^ I used to a lot, and then for a couple years I just got disenchanted and stopped.

If it was more graphic design, or non anime art, I'd suggest Somethingawful's Creative forum. While having a large range of visions and styles, they aren't DeviantArt. A lot of professionals post there and will tell you how it is. I've seen everything from abstract to semi-anime comics there. And of course being SA it isn't full of flaming retards, trolls and ass kissing is barely tolerated. :)

Have you thought of starting up your own art forum again? Maybe this time with a smaller group of artists that you admire, or something? You probably don't want that kind of responsibility though....just a suggestion! :)

I'm also going to jump on the bandwagon (my god...almost wrote hump instead of jump) and recommend ConceptArt.org

There are a lot of professionals there (lots of amateurs drawing huge tits too) - but by and large, if you're good enough to get noticed a little bit, then you'll be fine. The Daily Sketch Group is good. The personal sketchbook forum is also good - both of these are nestled within conceptart.org.

For fun you might wanna check out cgtalk.com Just to have a look around.

Conceptart forums, and Penny Arcade, definately. Conceptart I think would be more in line with your ability, though. Penny Arcade is a mix of beginners and professionals.
