If you haven't seen Serenity or Wallace and Grommit yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
What would be cooler? Going to Hawaii, France or Italy (or someplace else)?
I was thinking maybe for Mitch and my fifth or sixth anniversary or so we could go on a really nice trip somewhere. I personally would like to go somewhere with stuff to see and do. I like to see beautiful old buildings, shopping, having really good food, and just looking at beautiful scenery. I don't know for sure, but if I'm still working at the Simpsons, then we'd probably go in the spring.
JUNKO MIZUNO AND FRENCH KITTY---
does anyone know a good online retailer for tshirts from these? a google search just gave me a lot of sites with sold out shirts :(
Does anyone know the translation for "Field of Love" by Yoko Kanno?
Is anyone else bothered by Newtype USA only featuring Japanese cosplayers? :P
Today was a good day, but OMG, so busy *_*

Date: 2005-10-12 05:50 am (UTC)Ultimately it depends on your food prefences and the time of year. For the love of GOD avoid Florence and Rome during spring break.
Also, art history-wise:
ITALY--- Classical & Renaissance
FRANCE--- Medieval & Impressionist

Date: 2005-10-12 04:45 am (UTC)they featured ONE non-japanese cosplayer/manga writer about two issues ago, but then nothing since. I've written them about it actually. I dunno, just to me it feels kinda icky, like a japanophile thing. This magazine features other non-japanese stuff that's related to anime, etc... I mean it is NEWTYPE _ USA _ right?

Date: 2005-10-12 06:23 am (UTC)I was hoping Newtype USA would make the cosplayer feature into a nice monthly thing. I mean just my little one page feature brought a surprisingly amount of people to my site, and info cosplay itself. At least that's what I got from the e-mails. I was so happy to see Marty featured not too long ago, but since I don't buy the mag, unless someone tells me about it I don't know what's up ^^;. I do wish more US cosplayers could be a part of it :{

Date: 2005-10-12 06:14 am (UTC)I enjoyed France a lot more than Italy... although I just enjoyed the countrysides so much in both countries it's hard to say. If you go to Italy, go to Rome and/or Tuscany (Sienna!!) Florence is neat, but too touristy, and Venice is just crazy (but worth experiencing at some point in your life).

Date: 2005-10-12 09:24 am (UTC)Yeah, I vote Italy. Going to the ruins made me all tingly and I really enjoyed the people and speaking broken Italian is very fun!
Oh, yeah, that should be noted. My experience was that there weren't so many english speakers in Italy as there are in other European countries. Sure, at the big tourist attractions there's no problem and if you stay in a big hotel, it won't be an issue. But my friend and I stayed at a little inn and the guy who ran it didn't speak any english. The shops and restaurants we went to, no english. Even buying bus and subway passes, the attendant didn't really speak english. I wasn't really bothered by this because I like trying to communicate in native languages and it was really fun for me to get by on my small sampling of phrases and hand gestures.

Date: 2005-10-12 12:46 pm (UTC)I lived in France for three years, and there are many different lovely regions, but Italy takes the cake.
In France:
I would suggest the Loire Valley for its gorgeous chateux and pretty countryside. Plenty of wine tasting, but a little out of the way. There is a lot of quaint living here.
South of France: Cote d'azure. Gorgeous beaches - Cannes.. etc. Fun places to stay and eat. I stayed in a city called Juan les Pins, which was fun, though a little touristy. The place was very nice though - there were rows of vendors which set up on the beach/boardwalk and stayed open well past 1AM. We had a very good time.
Of course, there is Paris... I especially love Montmartre, and the Sacre Coeur where all of the artists set up, but there are a million back alleys around the city, and they're all very romantic. People move fast here.. but that's not to say they're all rude.
If you want to get some ideas there are of course, girly movies!
Only You is a great movie for scenes of Italy (soso movie in itself).
And of course, An American in Paris, for Paris.

Date: 2005-10-12 01:21 pm (UTC)The Northern/Tuscan region is especially beautiful, so I would suggest staying in/around Florence.
I would also suggest not going in mid-late summer as its ultra-touristy, VERY hot and dry which means the gourgeous Tuscan countryside is kinda dry and dead. Spring time is nicer.
Bali is somewhere I think would also make a great honeymoon/anniversary destination. <3 South Pacific culture.

Date: 2005-10-12 02:49 pm (UTC)I know that Hawai'i also used to have good Japanese-stuff-shopping opportunities, but I don't know how the market has been since its heyday.

Date: 2005-10-12 05:11 pm (UTC)I know it's not on the top of people's traveling lists but it's really quite beautiful.
If not Turkey, then go with Italy. My cousins have been to France many times (they loved it) and they preferred Italy over France. I'm not sure why but they thought the character of the peope and the scenery was wonderful. ^-^ Not a dig on France at all, because they loved France as well just not quite as much after they visited Italy.

Date: 2005-10-12 05:15 pm (UTC)We DID see Paris, which was beautiful, and the people were all very nice and polite. Almost everyone spoke English to us, too... except for the taxi drivers. If you need to get somewhere by taxi (not recommended; it was expensive), have your destination on paper. And be SUPER careful when crossing the street--I am SERIOUS, you could DIE. Use the tunnels whenever they are provided.
More than both of those places, though, I'd recommend Brussels, Belgium. The food is SUBLIME, the chocolates are delicious, and the scenery is beautiful. They also are some terribly nice people--Brussels, after all, is touted as being the friendliest city in Europe. And they speak French, so you can pretend that you're in Paris if it helps you any. ^_~ (Everyone we encountered anywhere knew English, so no worries about that.)
One great thing about Europe is that it's all connected, much like the United States, so it's really easy and cheap to get from one country to another. No passports required as long as you stay within the EU. If you want to see a few places, look into bus, train, or plane travel. Even flying is super super cheap... we flew from London to Amsterdam for $15 (yes, dollars) per person. ^_~

Date: 2005-10-13 04:16 am (UTC)Also, if you want to meet the friendliest people every, Ireland or Wales. At least I found that the people there were super super nice. Ireland took the first prize for having super sweet friendly people. The UK or Ireland in general is a really great place to go b&b hopping in the summer.
