Hi! Aimee pointed out your comment and I just had to ask: what did u do at the theater?! That's is so insanely cool to have worked with and met some of the takarasiennes!

Are we allowed to ask who you've met?

We've all seen Aida cause I got the dvd but I cannot wait to see it live cause it's one of my favorite shows. And I'm looking forward to seeing Elisabeth. I do hope they change it up a little as I've seen 3 of the other 4 troupes and as much as I like it, I'm ready for something a little different. =)

I was sort of a research intern. My thesis is on the acting/staging techniques of the Takarazuka theater, and through some amazing connections I was able to attend a lot of rehearsals, sit in on classes at the music school and do a little bit of backstage tech work. It was an incredible experience--nothing like I'd quite imagined. The Takara"jens," as I like to call them, are incredibly warm and sweet, and extremely devoted to their careers.

I saw most of the rehearsal process of the Moon Troupe's revue "A Burning Caribbean Night," Star's "Romantika Takarazuka '04," and also was backstage for Cosmos's "Phantom" and Star's Bow Hall show "Hana Isogi."

If you have any particular questions, feel free to mail me at zfazal@gmail.com and I'll do my best to answer them. :)

It will be interesting to have an otokoyaku, Sena Jun play Elisabeth, that's for sure! They probably will key down the music to suit her low voice, as they did for Ichiro Maki in the non-Takarazuka, National Tour of Elisabeth. I don't know where to get a video copy of the National Tour version, but I definitely recommend seeing it somehow if you ever get the chance. The director is the same, but the staging is drastically different, and there's an entirely different atmosphere and dynamic having a male actors, especially for Tod and his chorus.
