regionless dvd player suggestions??

so my dvd player choked,... it doesnt show pictures anymore. dunno how that happened. XP

I'd like to get a regionless one so I can get harder to get anime and stuff like battle royale.

any suggestions on a great regionless player? Big points go to ones with really good freeze frame (and frame by frame) playing, obviously should have excellent picture quality, and durability.

(pst... in other news, I can see my waist again! I think I may have lost about 5 lbs! WOOPIE! it's not alot, but it encourages me to keep working out)

I'm not much on picture quality and so on since we only have a sickly 20" TV. I recently got a Sampo player from jlist.com (just search for "DVD player", they only have two) and it's worked just fine with my Japanese and British DVD's so far. Plus it has a built in NTSC/PAL converter - which doesn't matter much for Japanese stuff, but if you ever want to branch out into PAL countries it will save you a lot of trouble. I know it's got video connections on the back that I am unable to use due to the aforementioned Bad TV, but lots of plugs is always a good sign. Right?

I got a region free DVD player at Japn Expo this year for $95 and ohhhhh my it is soooo FRIGGIN' awesome!

It's a Philio region free dvd player (I think they only make one kind) and it was recommended by Sheila (she is ninjanao and would know more technical details) It supports NTSC as well as PAL. It's also an mp3 and Karaoke machine!

I like it a lot because most of my dvds are obscure Japanese stuff. My favorite feature, though, is the different zooms. I was watching a Sakura Taisen musical dvd and I could easily pinpoint exact fabrics with it. Magical, I tell ya!

It also takes the macrovision out of dvds if you ever like to copy things for people. I copied some songs from a musical for a friend and it gave me a crystal clear copy!

So yeah, I like my little DVD player a LOT!

We have one of the Daewoo dvd players.

The model we got (from Sam's, of all places) has been discontinued, but I believe they have another on the market. May be worth checking out. It ran us around $100-110.

I have a Sony DVP-S7000. I'm not sure they make them anymore, but it's very reliable.

I have a Pioneer DV-333. It's code-switchable as opposed to code-free, though. That might be a good idea because I hear that some companies make DVDs that won't play on a code-free player in order to crack down on overseas pirating.

Umm.....I can't remember how we decided to go for this, but it was something like $350, regular $500. It's a pretty good DVD player! ^___^;;.....

I have an APEX AD600, the granddaddy of region freeness. It has trouble with some DVD's (region 1)... notably Jurassic Park, which I had to move back to my non-region free Panasonic to view. However it handled The Matrix just fine, so it's not just bitrate.

I have never played a region 2 DVD on it, sadly.
