Doctor Who Meme Day 05 – Your Favorite Companion
"the stuff of legends".
This should be obvious, but my favorite companion is Rose Tyler. I really really loved Donna, too. And I like Amy and Martha just fine... but Rose is the one I really connected with.

Rose is an ordinary human girl. She works in a shop. She rides the bus. She loves chips. She wears sweatpants. Her hair looks horrendous in the morning. She's not highly educated. She doesn't really have any exceptional talents.


But she becomes someone who does extraordinary things. She grounds the Doctor, she helps him move on after the Time War and she acts as his his counterpoint. (and it should go without saying that I loved Rose popping in and out of the universes taking a big gun. SO BADASS.)








Rose felt REAL to me. Rose's enjoyment of what she saw with the Doctor made her a perfect avatar for us as the viewers to feel like we were there with the Doctor, too. It was like we were traveling to fabulous planets... we were looking at the Earth exploding. We were learning WITH her who the Doctor was.
Rose and Rose's relationship with the Doctor was what hooked me on Doctor Who. Many people feel Rose was a Mary Sue, that she let people fantasize to some degree about them being the companion themselves...sure..., but I think in this case that's exactly what Rose needed to be. An entry for us to either meet The Doctor for the first time (new fans) or a reentry into the show for old fans.







A big part of Doctor Who for me is the joie de vivre, the enthrallment of discovery. Rose pushes this element for me more than some of the other companions.

And I just totally fell in love with Rose and the Doctor.

I am the Bad Wolf.
I create myself.
I take the words...
...I scatter them,
in time and space.
A message, to lead myself here.
I want you safe, my Doctor.
Oh man... goosebumps. She's gone from this ordinary shop girl... to the avatar of a deity almost... and she doesn't quite know what she's doing. I don't know. It's awesome. It manages to do this, for me, without godmoding.

And Russel's "final ending" for Rose and Ten...? ... oh my god you guys.


They feel to me like mythical characters. Something somehow real but at the same time something so mythical that it can't really exist. It's how I felt about The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe the first time I read it when I was a little kid. I felt like they were real, and if I told someone about them, they would stop existing. (Obviously I don't really think the Doctor was real, but there's that prickling of my arm.)

She's nice! and made me cry, but my fave would have to be Donna. Especially after so much love, love the doctor, it was refreshing someone who was on the adventure for herself more. And so funny!

I totally agree with all of this! TOTALLY! I know a lot of people didn't like Rose, in fact, most of my friends are OldWho fans who strongly dislike Rose and give me crap for loving her. But like you said, she's the character that got me loving Dr Who (9 is still my Fav Dr! :D). I actually didn't watch Dr Who for about 2 years after Doomsday. I just couldn't imagine the show without Rose! I was on the verge of tears during 10's goodbyes, but his farewell to Rose had me balling! It was so beautiful!

I too totally agree with everything you said. I'm currently watching the series (finished 3rd season a couple days ago) and I always felt close to Rose's character.
I saw myself in lots of things you said :)
And your drawings give a little bonus to the series. I'm glad that I can appreciate them 100% now that I follow the series ^^

awww lovely ^__^ Donna was always my favorite and what got me into DW, but over time, I started to really fall for Rose. she's such a cute, fun kid and the majority of her scenes always left a huge impact on me ;)
