I grew up in South Carolina and my parents still live there.
For July 4th weekend they rode their street bikes to Helen which is an adorable alpine village in Georgia. This is what the Helenites do for fun on the 4th of July:

Apparently all down the river it was like this. My dad took this photo. :)

I've always wanted to go tubing down the river like that. But I can't swim if I got knocked off or anything.

That looks like an absurd amount of fun. Now I want to organize a group for a river run.

Ahh, "Shoot the Hootch".

I completely forgot the Chattahoochee River starts near Helen. I used to do this type of tubing on the Hootch in north Atlanta. Really fun!

Helen is a fun little town. I spent a lot of time in this area of GA. This is reflected by the fictional town of "Apopka, GA" featured in my comic strip is based on Dahlonega, GA.

I've been tubing in Helen. Wasn't as crowded as in that photo, which was nice, but the water level was low at the time, which wasn't so nice. Still, recommended for sure.

I used to go to Helen all the time and we totally had to go inner tubing every summer. It is actually very relaxing. My parents have a house in the mountains of Georgia between Dahlonega and Helen. It's advertised as a "German town" and there are a lot of Bavarian themed little shops and restaurants. One of the best places to eat there is up in a kind of a tower where this ancient granny in a dirndl serves up your dinner. I also like Hansel & Gretel's Candy Kitchen taffy. Yum!

That's wild; I was just there today and we tubed three miles down the river!
What a coincidence!
It really is super adorable, though. ♥
