takuya angel @ aimeemajor.comTakuya Angel just came out with corset and kimono sleeves made out of obi fabric.
I thought I had some fabric like this (example in action)(specifically this).... .. but I can't seem to find my fabric. *______* rarrrr I don't have any obis I want to cannibalize either (and hot pink/hot blue obis aren't exactly common)

Takuya Angel is taking custom orders for them now S,M, and L (until the 12th)... but I'm worried that me being so tall, even the L would be a problematic fit, plus I'm trying to save money, so I'll just do something inspired by it. Hopefully I can find my corset pattern. I think it would be really fun to mix a corset like that with such vibrant blues and pinks and reds with other clothing.

I still really want one of these Takuya Angel haori/skirts though. BAD.... but can't afford it. Kinda kicking myself for not buying one last time I was in Tokyo... SOMEDAY... Takuya Angel, SOMEDAY!!!

.......... I really have to start on my Vampire Hunter D cape and bodysuit soon. I've been putting it off because I'm a bit intimidated by them, frankly... but ... really have to make some headway on those soon so that it will start looking like a costume. What's the phrase? "Still no clothes!"

There's a really nice kimono shop across the street from my office here in torrance... it's on the same street as Volks, about a mile from them. Roxy got a hot pink and green one there yesterday for $25. Sometimes Marukai has them too, typically used ones.

Damn it. now I want to bleach my whole head and dye it blue. NUUUUU~

Yeah, you mean Kyoie? (sp?) I love that place.

maybe I should do go there before I go to the fabric district. I like the thick fabric of a fukuro obi for this... but the chirimen fabric has such pretty color/patterns, too...

HMM!!!!

(I've always wanted to dye my hair blue, but I'm a chicken and I'm lazy)

It's a japanese designer that does really cool traditional japanese clothing mixed up with kindof a raver/anime style, if that makes sense. A lot of his clothes reuse old kimono fabrics, etc....

and some of them are convertible (like the haori I want turns into a skirt, too.)

they'd made giant sheets of iron-on rhinestones in the shape of michael jackson's head. I think I got harassed three different times by people trying to get me to buy memorial t-shirts and tank tops. o_o they were in every freaking store!

Oh boy, you got me and AJ's mental wheels turning over making that TA design for ourselves. Don't suppose you have any good links on where to find funky kimono fabric online?

OH HA HA, shall I send you more pictures of other TA stuff, too? I think this is a really neat design, though, huh?

I think the arms are snap on to go with his other stuff... and then some of them have a tie in the front/back, too. (to keep the sleeves on in other ways)

my favorite place to shop is:
http://ichiroya.com/
Search the Fukuro obi section,... that'll be the stuff closest to what he's using, and a fukuro would have enough fabric. (nagoya might not.) You can also do a search for fukuro obi on rinkya.com
and then of course there is ebay. :)

however,... some of the stuff he's using is just cool fabric, not actually repurposed kimono. (like the blue and pink one I linked to.) if you want to go that route, then try:
http://www.azabu-ya.com/
http://www.fabrictales.com/
http://www.reprodepotfabrics.com/

if you guys had some extra time we could just drive to the kimono store in torrance during comiccon... but I doubt that's feasible.

can we wear them together? :D

I bought 2 Takuya lucky packs when I was in Tokyo a couple years back and loved the contents. But last year, I ordered a 50,000 yen lucky pack online, and it was sort of disappointing. I realized after that I should have just used that money to buy one of the haori/skirts which is what I was hoping would be in the bag.

n/m kyoei in torrance didn't have much anyway, so online or fabric district is the best

I grabbed their business card! Um... crap. I'll have to hunt it down.

Aimee, I dropped by to PM you and let you know, I got my jacket! XD; Then I saw the AX post and went "ohhhhhhhh" and had to check it out. XD;

Anyway, Thank you! It's gorgeous, It got here safely! Even if I got it a bit late (yesterday-due to vacation). :3

The Kimono Store... I want to say it was something with "treasures" in the title? They sold a lot of vintage kimono and obi. I bought a gorgeous kelly green, gold, and red obi there the other day. They also had some remnant fabric. Though I'm not sure they have the thickness you'd want? I'm sure you could GET it through them though?

yeah, its kyoei. They're really nice. :)

I checked, but they didn't have exactly what I wanted, so I got some chirimen from downtown instead.

I was really excited that the lady helping me out was willing to converse with me in Japanese! XD; <3 That kinda made my day.

Sweet! I'm glad you found what you were looking for. I know how difficult that can be when you have something specific in mind! Good luck!
